  1. CREATING AN ENABLING ENVIRONMENT FOR YOUNG PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES TO ACCESS SKILLS DEVELOPMENT AND DECENT WORK PRESENTED BY LEKU SYLVIE NAKOU (MEMBER OF GLOBAL NETWORK FOR YOUNG PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES)

  2. Definition of key terms Enabling Environment: making an environment accessible and safe for everybody Access: right or opportunity to have something; way of getting somewhere. Skills Development: the productive capabilities acquired through all levels of learning and training, occurring in formal, non-formal, informal and on the job settings. Decent Work: is employment that respects the fundamental rights of the human person as well as the rights of workers in terms of conditions of work safety and remuneration, and the respect for the physical and mental integrity of the worker in the exercise of his/her employment.

  3. EVERY YOUNG PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES HAVE THE RIGHT TO AN ACCESSIBLE AND EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES TO DECENT WORK BECAUSE THEY DESERVE TO OBTAIN THEIR DREAM JOBS. ALL OF THESE ARE POSSIBLE WHEN DISABILITY INCLUSION BECOME DELIBERATE AND INTENTIONAL, WHEN EMPLOYERS ARE SKILLS ORIENTED, BELIEVE IN DIVERSITY AND THEY DON T JUST DRAW CONCLUSIONS BASE ON THE DISABILITIES OF THE APPLICANT. Employers should stop assigning young persons with disabilities to position that that they - perspective because the results won t be visible, rather they should approach it as a value add transaction Employers must not approach disability inclusion in the workplace from a social responsibility - that s his/her function and the job that he/she is going in and they should decide what is disabling the employees and see if they can remove or minimize the barriers. Employers should consider reasonable accommodation for young persons with disabilities,

  6. Solutions to Effectively Promote Inclusion for Young Persons with Disabilities in Workplaces

  7. - persons with disabilities can bring in their workforce and the value of these works. Employers and stakeholders must accept and recognise the potential and skills that young - nobody wants to be cheated because both parties know what is expected of them. Employers and stakeholders must look at disability inclusion as a competitive advantage where - environment for young persons with disabilities. Then disabled employees won t have to ask for everything they need. Make accessibility built-in within organisations, because this will create an enabling - workplace in other for disabled employees to be productive. Put in place practices that will promote the inclusion of employees with disabilities in the

THOUGH THE EMPLOYMENT RATE OF YOUNG PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES HAS DROPPED DUE TO SO MANY FACTORS AND COVID-19 BEEN ONE OF THEM, EMPLOYERS AND STAKEHOLDERS NEED TO WORK MORE ON THE INTEGRATION OF YOUNG PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES IN THE WORKPLACES. DISABILITY INCLUSION MUST BE PRIORITISED IN WORK SETTINGS BECAUSE THERE IS BEAUTY IN INCLUDING EVERYONE REGARDLESS OF THEIR AGE, GENDER OR DISABILITY, WE ALL HAVE SOMETHING TO BRING AT THE TABLE AND WE SHOULD NOT BE LEFT BEHIND WHEN IT COMES TO JOBS AND SKILLS DEVELOPMENT.
