Equipment for initial assessments An initial assessment is the first look at a wild animal that is suffering from injury When working with wildlife it is very important that you are prepared. What equipment do you need for an initial assessment? Ext: Are there any ways humans may abuse this equipment? Is this species specific?
Scenario 1: Barn Owl A distressed Barn Owl has been brought to your attention, the Barn Owl has been found on the side of a country road by a dog walker. On arrival it is clear that the Barn Owl has a fractured wing. Create a presentation to: Define fractures Detail how the Barn Owl could have got the fractured wing Discuss how to support an animal back to health that is suffering from distress and a fractured wing Here you should comment on: Equipment that could help you, including PPE and hazards that you may need to take into consideration. Scenario 2: Deer You have received a phone call from a distressed drive who has been involved in a Road Traffic Collision with a Deer, the driver said the Deer is breathing heavily and has a suspected broken Limb. Create a presentation to: Identify what broken limb is an how to recognise. Inform how to complete an initial assessment in the above situation and how to provide first aid. Discuss how to support an animal back to health that is suffering from heavy breathing and a broken limb.
