During their home learning activities in July 2021, Year 6 students engaged in a project focusing on creating a unique island. They designed geographical features, described initial impressions, established an environmental agency with rules, created a new animal species, and developed persuasive holiday brochures. Each student shared their experiences and encounters on the island, including eerie first impressions and fascinating wildlife discoveries.

  5. Description of first impressions Description of first impressions It all happened at once, really. We were rowing out, looking all around the ocean of nothingness for something that wasn t true to the name. We were looking for land to rest upon, basically. One week and a half of rowing is no easy task: especially with no food nor drink to ready us for what was ahead of us. But rowing was ahead of us. I was sleeping at the time, like most of the crew were when BLAM! We crashed straight into the shore. A bewildered look crossed my face as I heard distant noises float over us. In only a few minutes some of the others discovered a wooden sign that read: Welcome To Pikonia! and below, The Place That Really Stays In Your Heart! Well, it definitely wouldn t stay in my heart. The Ventos Island As I directed my boat towards the rickety dock, a musty smell hit my nose and I lurched backwards trying to get away from the horrific stench. I clambered out of my rusty boat and ran towards the mysterious island - carefully trying to avoid the broken pieces of glass on the shore. Cautiously, I headed towards the thick, dense forest in search of some form of life - when all of a sudden I heard a terrifying, piercing shriek and an evil laugh somewhere in the distance. 8. New Species New Species The Ziper The Glideadon The Glideadon, (latin name - Pteromyini Thleoco) is a mammal that lives on the recently discovered island of Crystal Cove. This creature is around 40cm long and 75cm wide when its arms/wings are outstretched. The Glideadon has long wings to glide through the air; using this ability to catch birds in mid-air. As it can't fly, it uses razor sharp claws to grapple on to red spruce trees, native trees to the North of the island. Once it is high up the tree, it will wait for a bird to fly past then jump for it securing it in its jaws. Another way it gets food is using their teeth or claws to peel away bark off fallen trees: looking for grubs. The creatures colour is a crisp reddish brown in order to camouflage them from their prey. They are solitary animals and tend to hunt by themselves. Not much is known about their reproductive cycle as these animals have just been discovered. The Ziper is a unique creature that can only be found on the newly discovered island of Trismainion. This creature is a peculiar mixture between a Viper and a Zebra. Scientists believe that there is another species of mysterious animal as well as the viper and zebra that make up this animal, but it is yet to be discovered. Although it is a third snake, this creature is a mammal with a backbone. The Ziper is an omnivore, which means it eats a variety of meat and plants depending on what is available. Being at the top of the food chain, the Ziper can feast on anything it desires without worrying about any predators. The Ziper has a snake s body with zebra stripes and ears. Will H Hannah B
