A MODEL OF FORGIVENESS: We are to forgive as God in Christ forgave us.
Ephesians 4:32 Be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you
We are to forgive BECAUSE God forgave us. We are also to forgive AS or LIKE or IN THE SAME MANNER that He forgave us.
1 Peter 2:21 23 to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps: "Who committed no sin, Nor was deceit found in His mouth"; who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously.
Isaiah 53:4,5 Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins! But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.
2. By entrusting the offense into the hands of God
1 Peter 2: 23 who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously.
Luke 23:34 Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.
Psalm 37: 5-6 Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass. He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, And your justice as the noonday.
Colossians 2: 13-14 Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. He cancelled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.
God puts our sin out of sight by covering it Psalm 32: 1 Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered.
God does not charge us with our sin Psalm 32:2 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity.
God casts our sins behind his back Isaiah 38: 17 But You have lovingly delivered my soul from the pit of corruption, For You have cast all my sins behind Your back. There is one thing that God always does with repentant sin. He removes it out of His presence
God remembers our sin no more Isaiah 43: 25 I yes, I alone will blot out your sins for my own sake and will never think of them again.
Leviticus 19:17 "You shall not hate your brother in your heart, but you shall reason frankly with your neighbour, lest you incur sin because of him.
Hebrews 12:15 See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springs up and causes trouble, and by it many become defiled
Romans 12:17-21 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God s wrath, for it is written: It is mine to avenge; I will repay, says the Lord. 20 On the contrary: If your enemy is hungry, feed him, if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head. 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
1Peter 3: 8-9 Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous; 9 not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.
2 Corinthians 5: 18- 21 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 20 We are therefore Christ s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ s behalf: Be reconciled to God. 21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Romans 12: 18 If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men
