  1. ISRAEL CROSSES THE RED SEA Lesson

  2. Lesson Aim That the children may Know that only God can forgive them when they sin and deliver them from the power of sin in their lives. Respond by asking God s forgiveness and asking Him to deliver them from a sin that controls them

  3. Scripture Scripture Exodus 12:37-42, 13: 17 15:21 Memory verse: Psalms 106:7-12 The God we serve is able to help us

  4. Review of the Previous lesson 1. What was to be special about the Passover s lamb or goat? 2. What were the children of Israel to do with the blood? 3. What did God say would happen to those families who did not put blood on the door frames? 4. What gift do we receive from God when we put our faith in His son Jesus Christ?

  5. The Israelites leave Egypt ( Exodus 12 :37 13:19) After the death of all the Egyptians firstborns the Pharaoh asked Moses to get her all his people and leave Egypt with all their belongings and livestock. The Egyptians also gave them gold, silver and clothing. They left Goshen marching in large numbers with their cattle, camels sheep and donkeys Moses also left with the bones of Joseph which God had told him to go and burry in the promised land- Canaan

  7. The Israelites travel through the desert

  8. Ctd.. After the first day of walking the Israelites made a large camp at a place called Soccoth. God gave Moses instructions that around the same time every year they were to celebrate the Passover to remember how God had delivered them from slavery in Egypt. They were to eat unleavened bread and a lamb they had killed and roasted during this Passover festival.

  9. God guides His People with a cloud (Exodus 13 :20-22) The desert was so big and wide but God had a special plan of guiding the Israelites through it. During the day He used a pillar of cloud that could move ahead of them in the direction they were to take where as during the night He used a pillar of fire. When God wanted them to stop in a place the cloud could stop whereas when He wanted them to proceed the cloud could move ahead of them. They followed the pillar of cloud for several days and after some days they came to the edge of the Red sea where the pillar of cloud stopped and they camped there.

Pharaoh pursues the Israelites ( Exodus 14 :1-9) Back in Egypt as they were mourning for the death of their firstborns Pharaoh realized that He had done a mistake of letting the Israelites go and that without them they could not be able to do most of the work especially building the cities. When his spies told him that the Israelites had camped by the Red sea he called his army with their horses and chariots and they started pursuing them.( this was the most powerful army in the world at that time)

  14. Pharaoh in Egypt gave an order to go after them

  15. The Israelites saw the Egyptians coming after them

  16. Moses consults God

God delivers His People (Exodus 14 :10-31, Psalm 106:7-12) The Israelites cry out to God As the Israelites were settling down for the night they looked back upon hearing a voice and noticed that Pharaoh s army was pursuing them. They could not go forward as there was the Red sea, backward was the Pharaoh s army and besides them was the desert. They cried out to God as they did not want to be killed by the Pharaoh s army.

  18. They also blamed Moses and told him Why did you bring us out of Egypt, it would have been better for us to go on serving the Egyptians than for us to die here in the wilderness. Moses told them Do not be afraid just stand still and see how God will deliver you. You will never see these Egyptians again. Then God said to Moses Raise your staff up and stretch it out on the sea to divide the waters so that the Israelites can cross over on dry ground. Suddenly the pillar of cloud that had been leading them moved behind and was now between them and the Egyptians. On the Israelites side it was fire to give them light whereas on the Egyptians side it was pitch black

  19. A pillar came between the two parties it was dark on the Egyptian side while bright on the Israelite side.

  20. God told Moses to stretch out his stuff and part the Red Sea

  21. God makes a Path through the Sea As soon as Moses raised up his staff God send a mighty wind that divided up the sea and dried up the muddy bottom. The Israelites marched across in the middle of the sea on dry ground. There were walls of water on either side as they crossed in amazement.

  23. God overthrows the Egyptians It took a while for the Israelites to cross with all their animals across the sea. Then God removed the cloud that was between them and the Egyptians and when the Egyptians saw that the Israelites were almost getting to the shore, they rushed after them. Moses told them. The Lord is fighting for you. and as soon as all the Israelites had crossed over God told Moses Stretch out your hand over the sea so that the water can cover the Egyptians, their chariots and horses. As soon as Moses had done so all the waters went back to its place and swept all the Egyptians into the Sea.

  24. The Egyptians go after them and start drowning in the Sea

  25. The Egyptian army drowns in the Sea

  26. They see the bodies of the Egyptians the following day

  27. The Israelites Praise God (Exodus 15 : 1-21) The Israelites stood on the shore watching the waters cover up the Egyptian army. They knew that their God had delivered them in a wonderful way. Miriam Moses older sister led them in a beautiful song of praise.

  29. Conclusion God had delivered the Israelites from the Egyptian army in a mighty way. Application There are times we are overwhelmed by Life s situations and have nowhere to turn to. We are caught between places and situations that are beyond our control. Our help is in God. The Israelites cried out to God and he performed the miracle of delivering them from the Egyptian army. Our help is in God who has all the power to help and deliver us even in difficult circumstances.
