Several academic institutions, such as Surry Community College and Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, are implementing COVID-19 vaccination requirements for students and faculty. While Surry Community College has no vaccination requirements but mandates clinical education, Novant Health and Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center are leading by example by making COVID-19 vaccination mandatory. Novant Health has set deadlines for completing the vaccination process and offers exemption options, while Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center specifies documentation deadlines for visiting students and faculty. These initiatives aim to enhance community safety by reducing new cases and hospitalizations, signaling a significant step in combating the pandemic.

WAKE FOREST BAPTIST MEDICAL CENTER As I m sure many of you have already seen or heard, it was announced that the COVID vaccine will now be mandatory for ALL hospital employees and visiting students/faculty, regardless of role (clinical, non-clinical, remote, on campus, etc.). Employee Health will begin administering the vaccine on Aug. 2. As it pertains to visiting students and faculty: Students that are currently onboarding or already on campus have until Oct.31 to send in vaccine documentation. If they are currently on campus, but their rotation will end before Oct.31, they do not have to provide vaccine documentation.

Exemptions must be sent in to the Employee Health manager, Candice Shore (cshore@wakehealth.edu). Exemptions will have to be submitted on a particular form, provided by WFBH. This form will be available on Aug. 1, at which time, we will send to you all.
