  2. Wireless Network Wireless Network Wireless expansion, vendor change Old wireless network ~ 200 Cisco autonomous AP s (mainly a/b/g) Rolling out ~600 Aruba controller-based a/b/g/n AP s ~ 60% done with new cable pulls and AP mounting ~ 15% done with full implementation Pleasantly surprised to see > 75% of bandwidth in upgraded buildings on 5 GHz channels 1

  3. Router Replacements/100G Upgrade Router Replacements/100G Upgrade Border Router Replacement Old single Force10 replaced with redundant pair of Juniper MX Primary ESnet link upgraded from 10G to 100G Went live in phases Thanksgiving through January Site Core/Edge Router Upgrades Retired old single core switch in January 3 new Cisco 6500 s installed around site for normal network In the middle of installing new Juniper MX480 as dedicated Science DMZ router for ALS 2

  4. 100G Tapping Evaluation 100G Tapping Evaluation IDS for our 100G link is currently using 2 x 10G mirror ports on the MX480 Filtering out all but control packets for GridFTP from our known DTN s to known peers (i.e. NERSC) to keep traffic below 10G Have evaluated two 100G aggregation/distribution devices in the past few months (one from a dedicated security company, another a commodity network switch/router) to be ready when traffic volumes make the temporary mirror port solution no longer adequate 3

  5. DTN Deployment DTN Deployment One new DTN installed at National Center for Electron Microscopy pushing 4 Gbps sustained Install of new DTN for the Domestic Nuclear Detection Office's Airborne Radiological Enhanced-sensor System next month Working on upgrades of several existing 1G DTN s to 10G Working on outreach programs to find more scientists who could benefit from automating data transfers 4

  6. Video Conferencing Video Conferencing 30 new centrally-supported video conferencing carts deployed to conference rooms 40 or 60 TV, Mac Mini, video conferencing microphone, speakers H.323/SIP, Skype, Readytalk, Google Hangouts, and Fuze software All LBL staff now have Fuze accounts setup and available to them through their institutional login 5
