  2. Mechanics Stance Load Launch Bat Path Contact Through the Ball Finish Mental Approach Practice Settings Game Settings Concentration Techniques Staying Focused Picking up Pitches

  3. Stance Craig Counsel Gary Sheffield Albert Pujols I do not believe there is one particular way to be mechanically sound

  4. Load / Launch Craig Counsel Gary Sheffield Albert Pujols - Load: roughly 60-70% on the back side - Get your hands and shoulders in a position to launch - Launch: get to 50/50 and soft front foot (toe to heel)

  5. Bat Path Craig Counsell Gary Sheffield Albert Pujols - Get the barrel on the same plane as the ball path - Keep hands back until bottom half is done - Keep arms with a bend (especially that top arm)

  6. Contact Craig Counsell Gary Sheffield Albert Pujols - Keep that 90 degree bend in that back arm - Palm up / Palm Down - Hips cleared to the pitch - Strong front side - Power through the back leg

  7. Through The Ball (after contact) Craig Counsell Gary Sheffield Albert Pujols - Extend that back arm THROUGH the baseball / V to the middle - Get your momentum through that front side - Front foot will start to straighten out

  8. Finish Craig Counsell Gary Sheffield Albert Pujols http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVZNFaFOQU4 - Finish everything off on the top half - Inside = low Middle = middle Outside = high - This is the point where your front foot will roll over

  10. Practice Settings Find out who you are as a hitter Speed, Bunter, Power, Average, Situational Work on YOUR game Do not try to attack everything at once Practice what will have the most influence for YOU Reading pitches, knowing YOUR zone, bunting, etc Keep everything in mind when practicing Drills, tee work, BP, even live pitching

  11. Game Settings Know your strengths and weaknesses You learn these in practice Know your opponents strengths and weaknesses Learn through scouting reports / staying focused throughout the game Know the situation Starting in the hole Create a game plan Starting on deck Execute In the box

  12. 4thup in the order 1stAB starts here Grab your BG s if you use them Get your helmet Grab your bat Start focusing in on pitcher Pick up his release point for each pitch Start thinking about your last AB How did they attack you What was the situation Will they stick to the same approach Did you win the last AB

  13. In The Hole 2ndAB Continue watching that release point Start going through situations that could come up for your AB Focusing even more on how they are approaching the guys in front of you Focusing even more on how they approached you during your last AB Start to pay attention to pitch sequence Take a look at the pitch tendency chart See if they are still following any tendency's

  14. On Deck 3rdAB (1st Live AB ) By now you know the situation(s) you might have Set up a game plan for each Treat every pitch as you were actually in the box Take each pitch Get your swings in between pitches, so you can focus throughout each pitch Once you see what your situation is going to be Lock in on a game plan Set YOUR zone for YOUR approach to the situation at hand

  15. In The Box 4thAB (2nd Live AB ) Trust everything you have done up to this point Adjust to any type of change in situation during the AB Go through YOUR routine Pick up your sign Get in the box Pick up that release point EXECUTE YOUR PLAN Control what you can control

  16. Staying Focused Be realistic at what you are doing Impossible to stay focused for an entire DH Know when to focus Have triggers to help your mind realize its go time Ball, Ball to pick up release point Sit to stay back Focus to remind yourself to simply concentrate on task at hand and zone everything else out Anything that works for YOU Do not allow doubt to creep into your mind Stay positive Control what you can control

  17. Picking up Pitches DO NOT .. Follow the pitchers throwing hand from his glove Be late with your load Stare at the same spot too long THINK DO .. Pick up his 3 x3 release box just before he gets there Have an educated guess for what might be coming Use triggers that help you get ready on time Be confident in what you are doing Anticipate and REACT
