  1. Exams Instructions OSCE & MCQ Course 452 F1, 2016 Dr.Kholoud Al-Zain Surg. 452- Orthopedic Course Organizer Dec 2015

  2. OSCE

  3. OSCE 40 marks 2 cycle simultaneously At West Building, ward 42 8 AM 12:30 PM All come max 7:15 AM Once exam starts no one is allowed in the OSCE

  4. OSCE Know your serial number (1-62): It s the sequence you will enter the exam If have flight or train booking take care of the departure time Swapping in sequence is not allowed Cycle A students 1-31 Cycle B students 32-62

  5. OSCE 6 stations: O/E H/O from a patient simulator, in Arabic Skill if splinting & reduction there will be a cast tech (1-2) rests We will provide you with the name tags when you arrive to the holding room Wear your lab coat & student I.D badge Care how you wear your Tarha , so its not an issue during O/E of skill stations

  6. OSCE NO electronics allowed at all If you get any we will collect them before you enter the holding room: Cell phones (different covers / or in locker) iPads / tables Laptops iWatch Bluetooth Only allow paper

  7. OSCE You will be taken in 4 patches (8,8,8,7) Duration of each patch is: 8 students 48 min 7 students 42 min Each patch of students: The 1st8 ladies will be taken immediately Just before a patch finishes the patch the organizer will prepare the next patch in the holding room by telling you your station number 1-8

OSCE Each patch of students: When leaving the holding area take your bag & books and put them on the trolley by the door By the end of the exam you will given your stuff Go & stand by the door of your station 6-min/station 1-min read Q outside, & 5-min exam If you forget the exam tasks there is the same question paper inside the room Number of bells you will hear

OSCE Hint always turn when leaving a room: - Cycle A to right - Cycle B to left Before entering each station put the tag on your sleeve's collar (not hand) When the bell rings go in Give your name tag to the examiner Hear the bell again go out immediately & start reading the next stations question Please don t forget your tags inside the station

  10. OSCE Examiners will leave you to do your task If they interferes: Wants next step (due your spending too much time in a point and he/she wants you to finish your task) Is guiding you (due you are straying away of the task)

  11. OSCE Station numbers are clear / Dr s to guide When finish the whole exam: You will be gathered in another holding area Don t ask about your marks/performance The next patch needs to start Consultants have commitments

  12. OSCE There will be 1 short brake for the examiners and patient simulators Sleep well before the exam & have breakfast Avoid caffeine if you can (bathroom) Bring your own snacks (sweet not salty -bathroom-) Get your own water

Tips for OSCE Introduce your self to the patient Eye contact Verbal consent Use both hands, kindly Any anterior has a posterior Do the O/E and explain in the same time Always say expose, compare If you say I want to do and do not do it you will not take the mark, due saying is not doing; OSCE is a SKILL exam

  14. Tips for OSCE GET your own instruments Don t forget N.V assessment Assess a joint above & a joint below Know the dermatomes & myotomes L.L or back C/O need to examine gait Neck C/O examine U.L

  15. Tips for OSCE In H/O station don t forget: Read your lectures Red flags The complain if affecting daily life Previous treatments (Med, Surg, & also traditional) Occupation If a child ask: The peri -natal period Milestones Vaccinations And listen to the answers no autopilot

  16. MCQ & SAQ Exam

  17. MCQ Exam All in the same day: F1 (room 1) F2 (room 2) Time (9 11) AM 60 MCQ 30 marks Get your own: Pencil (number 2) & eraser No sharpener (blunt tip is better) Snacks & water Tissue

  18. MCQ Exam I will place the answer sheets on the tables: Sit where you want But if you ask a lot Helps me reach you when you ask Keep all your stuff (bag & digitals) in your locker or you will not be allowed in the exam No Tarha

  19. MCQ Exam Be in the exam room 8:15 AM, to give us time to: Distribute the laptops Turn them on Exchange if needed Put your hospital I.D on the table next to you, we will check them Start 9 AM sharp, both rooms

  20. MCQ Exam Answer sheet: Write name: On the line And the corresponding boxes Serial number In the boxes Start with the 0 then your number, as: 003, or 046 University computer number: As registration number

  21. MCQ Exam 1stimpression is the correct answer Except if you read the question wrong Proper marking & erasing: The computer will mark it as 0 Then you come asking why you have a low mark Always use a number 2 pencil

  22. MCQ Exam MCQ 60: Can ask anytime during the exam (2 rooms) Will not answer Orthopedic terminologies Can explain English terminologies If you usually ask allot sit at the edges of the rows. Can flip between questions as you wish There are shred topics between consultant, so you can have 2-3 MCQ s on the same topic but from different perspective Some picture's are gross

  23. MCQ Exam Tips: Long scenario read the question then the case scenario, it makes it faster to understand the MCQ Shortest/longest item in the answers, don t relay on it due we adjusted all the MCQ s All items are arranged in alphabetical order, so don t say the answers is usually C for example Sometimes 2-4 items are true, but we are asking about the best, or each item is compatible with the scenario

  24. MCQ Exam Types of questions: what is the best treatment most appropriate initial management how will you manage the patient in ER what is the definite treatment who will you confirm the diagnosis what is the next step in investigation

  25. SAQ Exam 5 SAQ 10 marks Write everything, except if specified a number Clear hand writing We want to know reasoning / explanation why Paper sheets will be provided
