  1. Exams Instructions OSCE & MCQ Course 452 Dr. Munir Saadeddin December 2017

  2. OSCE

  3. OSCE 40 marks 8 AM 12:00 PM All come 7:30 AM max 7:45 AM Gather at 2ndfloor new medical college center. Once exam starts no one is allowed in the OSCE

  4. OSCE Know your serial number (1-55 ) 2 cycles simultaneously: 1-28 and 29-55 It s the sequence you will enter the exam Swapping in sequence is not allowed.

  5. OSCE 6 stations at each cycle: Clinical examinations : Hip, Knee, Spine etc. History taking: from a patient simulator, in Arabic Skill if splinting & reduction there will be a cast technician to assist. 1 rest station. We will provide you with the name tags when you arrive to the holding room. Wear your lab coat.

  6. OSCE We recommend that you don t bring your cell phones , computers or any electronics to the exam. We will collect before you enter the holding room ALL electronics: Cell phones iPads / tables. Laptops. Only allow paper.

  7. OSCE You will be taken in 4 patches (7,7,7,7 and ,7,7,7 and 6 students) Duration of each station is 6 minutes ( one minute to read scenario and 5 inside the room

  8. OSCE Each patch of students: When leaving the holding area take your bag & books and put them on the trolley by the door. You will NOT go back to the same holding area whatever the reason. Go & stand by the door of your station 1-min read Q outside, & 5-min exam inside. If you forget the exam tasks there is the same question paper inside the room. Number of bells you will hear : 3 Hint: always turn right when leaving a room.

  9. OSCE You have one minute to read the task carefully. When the bell rings go inside the room. Give name tag to examiner as soon as you enter the room. Please don t forget your tags inside the station.

  10. OSCE Examiners: Will leave you to do your task If they interferes: Wants next step (due your spending too much time in a point and he/she wants you to finish your task) Is guiding you (due you are straying away of the task)

  11. OSCE When bell rings go out immediately. Station numbers are clear / There are some doctors to guide you. Then start reading the next station scenario immediately. When you finish the whole exam leave directly Don t ask about your marks/performance. Take your bag / books / phones, it will be on a trolley on the way out. Go to the new holding area The next patch needs to start immediately after you.

  12. OSCE There will be 1 short brake for the examiners and patient simulators during the exam.( after 2 patches of 7 students each)

  13. Advise Sleep well before the exam & have breakfast Avoid caffeine if you can (bathroom) Bring your own snacks Get your own water

  14. Tips for OSCE Introduce your self to the patient Eye contact Verbal consent Use both hands, kindly. Examine and explain at the same time. If you say I want to do and do not do it you will not take the mark : saying is not doing; L.L or back exam need to examine gait.

  15. Tips for OSCE GET your own instruments. ( Measuring tape and percussion hammer) Don t forget N.V assessment Assess a joint above & a joint below Know the dermatomes & myotomes

  16. MCQ Exam

  17. MCQ Exam All in the same day: two Female groups.( Your 55 students group and next group) Time (8 10:30) AM. 60 MCQs and 20 SAQs(in 5 questions) 40 marks. Get your own: Pencil (number 2) & eraser No sharpener (blunt tip is better) Snacks & water Tissues.

  18. MCQ Exam Answer sheets will be placed on tables: Sit where you want Cell phones and electronics will be collected Your bags in-front of the classroom Better if keep all that in your locker.

  19. MCQ Exam Be in the exam room 7:30 AM, to give us time to: Distribute the laptops Turn them on Exchange if needed Put your hospital I.D on the table next to you, we will check them Exam start 8 AM sharp.

  20. MCQ Exam Answer sheet: Write name: On the line, And the corresponding boxes Serial number In the boxes, Start with the 0 then your number, as: 003, or 046 University computer number: As serial number

  21. MCQ Exam Proper marking & erasing: The computer will mark it as 0 Then you come asking why you have a low mark Always use a number 2 pencil.

  22. MCQ Exam MCQ 60: Supervisors will not answer Orthopedic terminologies( It was given during the course ). Can explain English terminologies (But not simple) Can flip between questions as you wish There are shared topics between consultant, so you can have 2-3 MCQ s on the same topic but from different perspective Some picture's are gross.

  23. SAQs: Short Answer Questions 5 questions each with at least 4 answers. You may be able to write more than 4 answers for some questions. Total mark you can accumulate is 20 marks.
