  1. Curriculum Area: Humanities Lower Key Stage Two Year 4 Euro 2016: A Welsh Curriculum Resource for 7-11 year olds

  2. Task Wales and Albania are two of the countries competing in Euro 2016. Both countries have many similarities and differences. Create a fact file/mind map to show some of the contrasting features of both countries.

  3. LNF Skills and Curriculum Coverage KS2 Geography Understanding places, environments and processes identify and describe natural and human features, e.g. weather conditions, types of buildings identify similarities and differences to describe, compare and contrast places and environments LNF Literacy (Year 4) 4.OL3 after listening, respond, giving views on what the speaker has said 4.WS5 - use visual information e.g. illustrations and diagrams, which are clear and relevant to the written text 4.RS5a scan for specific information using a variety of features in texts. E.g. titles, illustrations, key words

Time Limits Introduce challenge and find out more about Wales and Albania s geography 1-2 lessons Research relevant books and websites on Wales and Albania, annotating and note-taking in preparation for creating a fact file/mind map 2 lessons Create a fact file comparing differences and similarities 2 lessons Edit, redraft and present using ICT 2 lessons

  5. Activity Breakdown 1. Introduce the challenge. 2. Share PowerPoint on Comparing and Contrasting Two Localities . 3. Use relevant sources to find the definitions of these terms. 4. Use a range of books and websites to find out more about Albania and Wales. 5. Annotate and take notes on this key research in preparation for creating a fact file/mind map. 6. Discuss key features of a fact file/mind map and write an initial plan use the Teacher Model as a guide. 7. Draft the fact file/mind map. 8. Edit and redraft writing, and present using ICT. 9. Possible options for ICT redraft include Book Creator, Comic Life and Microsoft Publisher/PowerPoint.
