Do the Work Earn the (DECA) GLASS!! Tips and Advice to help you SUCCEED at Alabama CDC and ICDC ROLE PLAY EVENTS
What is a Role Play Event A real-world scenario or business case study that you or your team will analyze and present to a judge Includes a problem that needs to be solved or a plan that needs to be made Includes an online 100-question exam that will be taken at your school prior to CDC. Questions come from the Performance Indicators (PIs) for each category. A chapter may enter as many participants in each event as you would like at the CDC level.

TYPES OF EVENTS TEAM TEAM Role Play Events Up to TWO participants per team Case study analysis using problem solving process 30-minute prep - hand-prepared visuals can be made during this prep time and used in the role play 15-minute role play Exam based on career cluster each team member will take their own exam and scores will be averaged

Preparing for the Online Exam Online Exam The online exam for each event will be taken at your base school the week of January 30 February 3, 2023 for Alabama CDC Be prepared. The next few slides will show you what to study for each competitive event. The Slides will indicate: The number of questions for each instructional area use this as a guide for the content you will need to study. For example, if there will be 2 questions in Economics, but 22 questions on Emotional Intelligence, focus more of your efforts on the PIs for Emotional Intelligence (but don t ignore the other instructional areas). Preparing for the Online Exam Online Exam Once you click on the Performance Indicators document for each exam, you will find the PIs for each instructional area. The code (EI:024) is the LAP (learning application packet) in MBA Research that correlates to this PI. ADVISORS, you have FREE access to every LAP in the MBA Research Learning Center. Preparing for the Role Play Role Play VOCAB, VOCAB, VOCAB Knowing your vocabulary is essential to acing the Exam and the Roleplay Vocabulary terms are present in scenarios and are significant in showing the judge how knowledgeable you are about the topic you are presenting Study vocabulary pertaining to your Career Cluster
Tips for practice exams FREE online exams you will need your member ID from your advisor to log in https://practice.answerwrite.com/deca/al-p There are many practice tests keep taking them and practicing. The more you take, the better your score will be on the actual test Once you have completed the exam, you will be able to see the questions, your answer, and the correct answer Study the questions/ answers you got wrong and WHY you got it wrong ALSO study the questions/answers you got RIGHT! You may have gotten a lucky guess on the right answer, so remember that answer!!
How to Prepare Role Play Performance Indicators Performance Indicators (PIs) are crucial knowledge for your event For each PI listed on the role play, be sure to address the DECA acronym: Define define the PI Explain explain and provide significance using vocab Connect the PI to the scenario. Why is this important and how can it be solved? Above & Beyond get creative! Use personal experience or examples and make it personal. Use a quote, make a visual, make it YOU!

Wrap it Up Make a good first (and last) impression! Start Strong and End Strong Show Confidence from start to finish Avoid slang be professional Be up to date on current trends and events in your event category Role Plays are like riding a bike the more you practice, the better you will get! This includes the online exam
Wrap it Up Use your notes as a guide, do not read from them to the judge Maintain eye contact with the judge, even while you may be thinking of an answer continue to talk through the thought process Focus on what you know! Smile and thank them for their time!
