The 2018 People Matter Employee Survey at Roads and Maritime focused on employee feedback and initiatives to enhance workplace satisfaction.   2. 2018 People Matter Employee Survey The 2018 People Matter Employee Survey is on in June. This survey is a priority for our Transport cluster. It s all about putting our people that s you at the heart of everything we do. By having your say about your workplace, you are helping to make this the kind of place where you want to work and driving real change in your organisation. 2

  5. Effective and visible senior managers You said 39% of employees agreed senior managers listen to employees. 76% of employees said your manager encourages and values your input. We re doing Leader Buzz with Rodd Staples was launched as a new way for the Secretary to communicate directly with 22,000 employees across the Transport cluster. And Rodd has been getting out and about each fortnight to visit employees at different locations around NSW. Chief Executive Ken Kanofski and members of the Executive team are travelling around the state from April to July 2018 to meet with employees and discuss key priorities for the agency. A similar tour was held in 2017. More than 250 Transport leaders came together as one team at the Leader Alliance event in October 2017 to talk about the need to evolve and lead our people through change. Recruiting and developing our people You said 29% of employees said our recruitment processes are efficient 47% of employees are satisfied with career development opportunities We re doing We partnered with Transport to provide dedicated recruitment consultants to each division. We lowered delegation levels for 28 different processes to reduce red tape. The average time it takes to fill a vacancy has dropped from 57 days down to 51 days. Project Pipeline is opening up more opportunities for employees to develop their skills across different projects and be considered for future roles Our new cluster-wide guide, It s your career. Own it. was launched to give you practical information and tips on how to take control of your own professional development. Add examples from your business area And there s so much more to come! This is all part of a wider program of work in the RMS People Plan 2020 that will deliver faster and simpler processes, and a better experience for candidates and hiring managers. 6

Collaboration across teams and between agencies You said 46% of employees said there is good cooperation between teams, across branches, divisions, directorates and between agencies across Transport. We re doing Future Transport 2056 is our bold new strategy for transport in NSW over the next 40 years. Every agency across Transport made important contributions to the strategy. The plans were developed collaboratively with the Greater Sydney Commission and Infrastructure NSW, as well as the departments of Premier and Cabinet, Planning and Environment, Industry, Health and Education. This whole of government approach is a first for NSW. CongestionHack brought together industry, innovators, entrepreneurs, students and Transport representatives to pitch ideas to dramatically improve congestion in and around Sydney. The SafeR Industry Forum brought together 25 industry partners to share and discuss our Work Health Safety data for active road construction projects. By collaborating across the agency and with industry partners we are pooling our resources to improve safety for our people, such as with the Separate yourself program.   8. Completing the survey 1 June 2 July 2018 The online survey can be completed on any computer, including a shared computer, your home computer, or a phone or tablet. It takes around 15 minutes. If necessary, you can save the survey part way through and access it later using the password you create. Paper surveys are available for Wages employees in Regional Maintenance, Sydney Maintenance and Driver Aid Services. All employees working for Roads and Maritime Services are invited to participate in the survey. This includes all full-time and part-time employees, casuals, graduates, apprentices, temporary employees and labour hire. 8

  9. Frequently asked questions Is the survey anonymous and confidential? Yes. The survey is run by an independent research organisation. No names or identifying information are collected as part of the survey. Your managers will not have access to individual survey responses. Why should I complete the survey? The survey provides an important opportunity for you to have a say about your workplace and to help make Roads and Maritime a better place to work. Your feedback will help to identify strengths and opportunities for improving work practices in Roads and Maritime and the wider public sector. What questions will be asked? Most questions are about your experiences at work. There will be some questions about you and your job but these won't be used to identify you. I am an employee embedded in another division (e.g. Finance, WHS, Environment, HR Business Partners). Which division and branch should I select to complete the survey? If your role is embedded within the business, please select your home branch when completing the survey i.e. if you are a Finance Business Partner embedded in CaRS division, please tick Finance and Investment as the Division that you belong to. When completing the survey, think about your manager, the culture, situations and opportunities within Finance and Investment. The only exception is Technical and Project Services (TPS) WHS Partners who should respond for TPS. 9
