  1. Adding/Subtracting/ Multiplying Polynomials (Section 8-2) UNIT 7 DAYS 1 AND 2 2/24/16, 2/25/16

  2. Wonkas Golden Ticket! POLYNOMIAL OPERATIONS HTTP://WWW.CPALMS.ORG/PUBLIC/PREVIEWRESOURCELESSON/PREVIEW /47832

  3. Warm-Up Gum Drop! While loading the gumball machine, one of the Oompa Loompas slipped on an Everlasting Gumball and spilled three bags of candy he was carrying! Please help them to sort the gumballs back into the proper bags by placing like terms in the same bag.

  4. Willy Wonka is excited to announce his new Polynomial Bubble Gum! Each massive, long-lasting gumball will be a unique combination of flavors, represented by a polynomial. Combine like terms to write a number sentence representing the set of gumballs that you organized, above. (Answer: 28x2 -11x -30)

  6. Essential Question What methods can you use to add, subtract, and multiply polynomials?

  7. Adding Polynomials Combine like terms.

  8. Subtracting Polynomials 1. Distribute the negative sign to the second polynomial. 2. Combine like terms.

  9. Textbook pg. 347 On a sheet of notebook paper Add/Subtract/Multiply Polynomials

  10. Multiplying Polynomials 1. Distribute each term in the first polynomial to each term in the second polynomial. 2. Combine like terms.

  12. Textbook pg. 348

  13. The Golden (Exit) Ticket After the warm up activity, a classmate asked you about one of the problems. The classmate asked if you would kindly help to review the problem below. Decide whether or not each side of the equation is equal to the other and how you could simplify the polynomial. Then, explain your steps to help your classmate. A good summary will include keywords such as: monomials, like terms, integers, and exponents. (x2+ 3xy - 7) - (x2 - 2xy +4) = 2x2 +xy + 3 Are the polynomials equal? If not, what is an accurate way of simplifying the equation? Describe the steps you took to arrive at your answer, in order to help your classmate. (x2+ 3xy - 7) - (x2 - 2xy +4) =
