Dumfries and Galloway Council: Youth Employability Initiatives

OFFICIAL Alistair S5 student at Douglas Ewart High School wanted do the award because it let him learn in different ways. Scott Kelly completed a placement on Littleton Farm while working towards the Workplace skills award. Hamish S5 student at Castle Douglas High School likes being outdoors and learning new skills. OFFICIAL
OFFICIAL I am really happy to know that the hard work paid off. If I had to name that one thing that has improved, it would be my confidence. It grew significantly. I have just had my first ever exhibition of my artwork, paintings. It went exceptionally well - with all the sales and the new contacts I made. I am Sean Watson with his key worker Emilia. positive about my future and look forward to it with an excitement! OFFICIAL
OFFICIAL I am very excited to achieve the [Workplace Skills] Award. It s been challenging at times but really worthwhile as I am a different person now. A year and a half ago I was very shy, had very little confidence, was anxious about many things and I didn t really know what I was capable of doing. I started working towards the [Workplace Skills] Award and learned about different rules, expectations and behaviours that are expected of employees. I also started volunteering where I have had the opportunity to try my newly learned skills. A few months down the line, I was confident enough to apply and secure a job within hospitality. I have since moved to a different role and this month will be 1 year since I began this. Emma Miller OFFICIAL
