  1. Weymouth Town Council Annual Town Assembly Wednesday 17 March 2021

  2. Established on 01 April 2019 29 Councillors Up to 64 staff 3.34m precept for 20/21 and 21/22 0% rise 4.2m budget ( 860,000 of other income) Band B precept rate of 2.78 per week (or 1 small latte)

  3. What we do: Parks, Gardens, open spaces, amenity land, play areas Cemeteries Allotments Public toilets Weymouth beach all 3.5 miles of it and over 1m visitors a year Events Community development Support for business (in partnership) Local improvement projects Tumbledown, Radipole, Neighbourhood Plan Governance, finance, HR, Cllr support, comms, civic, facilities, health and safety etc, etc What we work with partners on: Highways, traffic and public transport Parking Public safety Police, environmental health, licensing, public health Housing social housing Council tax, benefits Business rates Elections Crematorium Planning and building conservation Schools, colleges Waste collection and disposal (except on our land) Social care adults and children Libraries Emergency planning and response

  4. 7 priorities: Improve the wellbeing of the people of Weymouth Manage the Council s assets and resources responsibly and transparently Manage the Council s services effectively to meet the needs of the communities we serve Work to become greener and cleaner in our activities as well as supporting our communities and partners to be as green as possible Promote opportunities for economic success of the area Strive for continuous improvement and service development Work with partners to deliver our core values and strategy

  5. Covid Frontline services maintained Public toilets open Cemeteries open Beach and parks open important for mental health Stay safe signage and banners Refresh project and food banks emergency grants Leaflets put out in areas where we know internet usage is low (10,000+)

  6. Driving positive developments and giving Weymouth a strong and loud voice Local Plan Neighbourhood plan Strong links with Dorset Council, Public health Dorset and Dorset Police Levelling up fund Meetings with Mr Drax our MP Members of the public are invited to speak at each Full Council meeting and at each Committee meeting

  7. Greener and Cleaner 654 trees planted in the past year Trailing horticultural vinegar to replace glyphosate Rewilding areas Working to educate everyone using our open spaces responsibly

  8. Radipole Park and Gardens 1.4m project with 1.1m of National Lottery Heritage Funding Working with the Friends of Radipole park and Gardens if you d like to get involved please drop them a line A new drainage scheme with bog/amphibian garden and pond Improved access and increased accessibility Improved play facilities and reintroduction of a water feature Introduction of a heritage centre/caf recording a timeline of the history of Radipole Park and Gardens Introduction of a unisex toilet to enable families to stay at the open space longer Creation of a Sensory Garden Capturing the hidden heritage Improved biodiversity

  9. Improving amenities Investing 348,500 in The Marsh and building a new skate park, pump track and parkour area. Refurbished the underground toilets following a severe flood and these will hopefully be open at Easter. Investing in Speed Indicator Devices

  10. Value for money Precept rise at 0% for the second year running Significant savings made from the budgets that came over from previous Councils efficiency! Income generation beach services, allotments, cemeteries, cafes, wedding ceremonies at Commercial Road, leases (beach concessions, garages etc), services to other Councils (grass cutting, nursery services) Bringing in service plans and Key Performance Indicators to allow services to be planned to meet local need and realise efficiencies where possible.
