Final Focus, a crucial 2-minute speech at the end of a debate, serves as your last chance to persuade the judge of your victory. It involves comparing key voters and emphasizing the impact of your arguments. Weighing key voters is essential, with a focus on demonstrating why the scale tips in your favor. Remember, Final Focus is not for introducing new arguments but for impact calculation and weighing. Be vigilant if opponents try to bring up arguments not discussed in the summary.

  1. Final Focus By: Sharmila Nimbkar and Damien Rivera

  2. What is Final Focus? Final Focus is a 2 minute speech by person 2 at the very end of the debate that ultimately tells the judge why you have won the round. FF is also an impromptu speech. Majority of final focus is comparing your own key voters to your opponents in order to demonstrate that your impact is larger, more important, or more imminent. FINAL FOCUS IS NOT FOR REBUTTING, IT S FOR IMPACT CALC AND WEIGHING. Just like summary, you may not bring up new arguments in Final Focus.

  3. How to Weigh Key Voters If summary was executed well, the key voters will already have been established, distinct and well supported, with a strong and significant impact. This way, the person giving final focus will have a much easier time. The best way to describe weighing is to put your key voters on a scale , if you will, and demonstrating to the judge that the scale tips in your favor. The impacts within a key voter decide how heavy a key voter is.

  4. *********** ALERT*********** ANYTHING NOT BROUGHT UP IN SUMMARY CANNOT BE BROUGHT UP IN FINAL FOCUS. IF YOUR OPPONENT TRIES TO BRING UP AN ARGUMENT THEY DROPPED IN SUMMARY, CALL THEM OUT.
