  1. B.02 FIDE Rating Regulations from 1 January 2022 Qualification Commission

  2. Rate of play Old 1.1 Till 31 December 2021 For a game to be rated each player must have the following minimum periods in which to complete all the moves, assuming the game lasts 60 moves. Where at least one of the players in the game has a rating 2200 or higher, each player must have a minimum of 120 minutes. Where at least one of the players in the game has a rating 1600 or higher, each player must have a minimum of 90 minutes. Where both of the players in the game are rated below 1600, each player must have a minimum of 60 minutes. New 1.1 From 1 January 2022 For a game to be rated each player must at the start of the tournament have the following minimum periods in which to complete all the moves, assuming the game lasts 60 moves. Where at least one of the players in the game has a rating of 2400 or higher, each player must have a minimum of 120 minutes. Where at least one of the players in the game has a rating 1800 or higher, each player must have a minimum of 90 minutes. Where both of the players in the game are rated below 1800, each player must have a minimum of 60 minutes.

  3. Intermediate time control Old 1.2 Till 31 December 2021 Where a certain number of moves is specified in the first time control, it shall be 40 moves. New 1.2 From 1 January 2022 Where a certain number of moves is specified in the first time control, it shall be at least 30 moves.

  4. Monthly reporting Old 4.1 Till 31 December 2021 For tournaments, a period not greater than 90 days, except: New 4 From 1 January 2022 For tournaments lasting more than 30 days, interim results must be reported on a monthly basis. 4.11 Leagues may be rated which last for a period greater than 90 days. The QC may approve the rating of tournaments lasting more than 90 days. For tournaments lasting more than 90 days, interim results must be reported on a monthly basis. 4.12 4.13

  5. Round Robins (1) Old 6.2 Till 31 December 2021 In a round-robin tournament at least one-third of the players must be rated. Subject to this requirement, If the tournament has less than 10 players, at least 4 must be rated. In a double round-robin tournament with unrated participants, there must be at least 6 players, 4 of whom must be rated. National Championships played as round-robin shall be rated if at least 3 players (or 2 women in events exclusively for women) had official FIDE Ratings before the start of the tournament.   6. Round Robins (2) Old 8.2 Till 31 December 2021 Determining the Rating 'Ru' in a given event of a previously unrated player. The results of both rated and unrated players in a round-robin tournament are taken into account. If the opponent is unrated, then the rating is determined at the end of the event.   7. Matches Old 6.5 Till 31 December 2021 Where a match is over a specific number of games, those played after one player has won shall not be rated.   8. Rating difference > 400 Old 8.54 A difference in rating of more than 400 points shall be counted for rating purposes as though it were a difference of 400 points. Till 31 December 2021 New 8.31 From 1 January 2022 A difference in rating of more than 400 points shall be counted for rating purposes as though it were a difference of 400 points. In any tournament, a player may benefit from only one upgrade under this rule, for the game in which the rating difference is greatest.

  9. Reporting Procedures Old 9.1 Till 31 December 2021 The Chief Arbiter of a FIDE registered tournament has to provide the tournament report (TRF file) within 7 days after the end of the tournament to the Rating Officer of the federation where the tournament took place. The Rating Officer shall be responsible for uploading the TRF file to the FIDE Rating Server not later than 30 days after the end of the tournament. New 9.1 From 1 January 2022 The Chief Arbiter of a FIDE registered tournament must provide the tournament report (TRF file) to the Rating Officer of the federation where the tournament took place. Once satisfied that the tournament was conducted in accordance with all relevant FIDE Regulations, the Rating Officer shall be responsible for uploading the TRF file to the FIDE Rating Server. This should be done in time for the tournament to be rated in the monthly list in which the tournament is registered or, if there are five days or less from the last day of the tournament to the end of the month, for the following list. If the tournament report is not submitted in time to be included in the third rating list after it ends, the tournament will not be rated.

  11. Hybrid events Old New 0.2 From 1 February 2021 All tournaments played under Hybrid conditions as described in 2.1 must be approved individually by the QC Chairman. Play must take place according to the FIDE Laws of Chess or the Regulations for Hybrid Chess Competitions (Part IIIb within the FIDE Online Chess Regulations). For Hybrid events, full pgn files must be submitted with the tournament report. 2.1 9.4
