This is one of the reasons Michelle s parents encouraged her to take her education seriously. She wanted to make positive changes Michelle grew up thinking of ways to bring about change by continuing the important work of leaders who came before her. From going to law school to working for the mayor s office in Chicago, Michelle spent a lot of time serving her community. Her journey took her to the White House As first lady of the United States, Michelle started her own programs to help everyday Americans, especially young people. Her programs focused on education and healthy living. She even planted a vegetable garden at the White House! Michelle continues to make a big impact on the world Michelle has kept busy after serving as first lady. She wrote a book about her life so far, started the Obama Foundation with her husband Barack, and has her own podcast where she talks about important things that are happening in the world today.
