  2. Why DC? Why DC? The trip is thoughtfully connected to the 8th grade government curriculum. Students will be given opportunities to demonstrate their learning both on the trip and after they return. Students create positive memories with peers during their last year at Maple.

  3. Safety Procedures Safety Procedures We travel in a group - never alone Pupil/teacher ratio is 13:1 (maximum) Security guards on duty at hotel WorldStrides personnel and Doctors on Call available for emergencies

  4. Parent & Chaperone Parent & Chaperone Collaboration Collaboration Chaperone Responsibilities In loco parentis Communication Students need to be present Parent Support Students are expected to communicate directly with chaperones if any issues or concerns arise on the trip.

  5. Showing Respect in D.C. Showing Respect in D.C. Being respectful to chaperones, guides, and security people In addition to any government personnel or building conduct Cooperation at public restaurants and with hotel personnel Specific behavior guidelines for students to be reviewed with chaperones and parents

Cell Phones, Cameras, and Electronic Devices Students will be allowed to bring a cell phone and camera on trip Chaperones will notify students when cell phones may be turned on Social media use is not permitted on the trip Students need to ask permission before taking pictures of faculty

  7. Proper Dress Proper Dress Washed out or torn clothing, leggings, yoga/workout pants, shorts, and hats are not permitted while touring Boys should wear shirts with collars Girls should not show any skin at midriff Spaghetti straps, skirts, dresses are not permitted If garment is in question - wear it to school before trip and show it to Mr. Gurgone (boys) or Ms. Vos (girls) Appropriate t-shirts, shorts, and/or hats may be worn in the hotel only

Our School Nurse Our School Nurse Procedures in place for students needing medication All medication must be in original packaging with instructions and dosage Nurse reviews all medical forms before trip Completes list for chaperones indicating students needing medication, allergies and/or dietary needs Checks first aid bags for each bus

  9. Roommates Roommates Select up to three roommates - No more than four students to a room or No Preference Do not sign off on the roommate request form until reviewing all names with your child Downplay selection of roommates and emphasize the educational value of the trip Rooms will be assigned in groups of four If there is an issue, please call Ms. Holzkopf, Ms. Vos or Ms. Norquist

Odds and Ends Odds and Ends Educational Trip student journals Students should bring wallets/purses for spending money $40-$60 is sufficient for souvenirs Bring cameras, chargers, batteries, etc. Wear comfortable shoes lots of walking! No need to bring swimsuit - there is no swimming at the hotel

Cost and Important Dates Cost and Important Dates November 30, 2018 Registration Deadline - First Deposit $99 (non- refundable) February 22, 2019 Payment in Full Due Late February Students Receive Roommate Packet Early March Roommate Packet Due Total Trip Cost (Quad Occupancy) = $1144.00 Full Refund Program: $135.00 Additional Cost for Trip Protection EZPay: Monthly Installment Option available. FLAG Financial Assistance: may be available for families with an adjusted gross income up to $85,000.

Chicagoland Trips Chicagoland Trips Students not attending the D.C. trip can attend the Chicagoland trips There is a different trip scheduled each day leaving Maple at 8:45am and returning at 3:15pm A permission form and money for each trip will be turned into the office Assignments will be turned in the following Monday for the Chicagoland Trips
