Delhi's public transportation system faces challenges of low accessibility, complex route structures, high waiting times, and poor fleet distribution. The proposed plan aims to enhance accessibility, efficiency, and reliability by implementing a hierarchical bus network, improving service frequencies, ensuring fare integration, and adopting a hub-and-spoke model.

  1. PHASE I NAJAFGARH

  2. ISSUES OVERVIEW LOW ACCESSIBILITY COMPLEX ROUTE STRUCTURE Only 70% of Delhi s area is covered within 500m of reliable bus network. the present bus route network is Destination based that has buses running from everywhere to everywhere in the city. HIGHWAITINGTIME COMPETING PARALLEL SERVICES This may be attributed to the existing bus services having poor frequency on many routes due to high route length, congestion during peak hours and missed trips. Delhi is presently serviced by number of feeder services such as Gramin Sewa e-rickshaws, etc. often these ply on same route as the buses and compete with them rather than complimenting which results in poor utilisation of services. POOR FLEET DISTRIBUTION LACK OF NETWORK HIERARCHY Some buses are crowded whereas others run empty. Irrespective of demand all routes are serviced by Standard buses.

  3. VISION & GOALS IMPROVED ACCESSIBILITY HEIRARCHICAL BUS NETWORK Connect Delhi Envisages to provide reliable Public Transport service to all citizens within 500m of waking distance from their residence. Delhi was planned to have a hierarchical bus network that branches into Trunk, Primary and Feeder routes. Each route shall have its characteristic frequency of services. RELIABLE SERVICE SERVICE IMPROVEMENT Provide Public Transport services at a headway of 15mins. Proposed network shall clearly delineate routes for feeder services so that they can now truly be feeder service to the city s bus network . FARE INTEGRATION INCREASED TRAVEL OPTIONS Under Connect Delhi it is envisaged to implement fare integration across all public transport services in Delhi. It is proposed that for a single journey commuter shall require a single ticket irrespective of Number of interchanges Commuter shall have multiple options to reach their destination, by ensuring efficient utilisation of different services.

  4. PROPOSED OPERATIONAL MODEL VISION FOR BUS SERVICE Improved Accessibility The proposed bus network aims at creating hierarchical, high frequency, reliable bus Service. BUS NETWORK This shall create bus route network with hub and spoke model for Delhi. Similar to Delhi s Road Network there shall be circular routes running on the ring roads and there shall be radial routes connecting to various subsequent settlements. Lower waiting time Demand based services NETWORK HEIRARCHY The network shall have high frequency Trunk route, serviced by primary routes and Village connectivity routes

  5. ADOPTED HUB & SPOKE MODEL CBD Circulators Delhi has a Multi-Nuclei structure hence High frequency bus routes connecting these CBD locations is proposed. The routes shall be designed to run at 5- 10 mins Freq. TRUNK ROUTES High frequency bus routes connecting hubs. Urban hubs are selected that these will provide location for maximum interchange for zonal traffic. (5-10min Freq) PRIMARY ROUTES These shall be routes connecting Zonal Hubs to urban Hubs. (10-20min Freq) VILLAGE CONNECTIVITY ROUTES Village connectivity routes shall basically be routes that acts as feeder to primary routes that connect till our neighborhood. (20-45min Freq)
