Read For Gold Program at Park Mains High School
The Read For Gold program at Park Mains High School in Renfrewshire is a tracking system for S1 pupils, encouraging them to read and engage with books. There are three levels - Bronze, Silver, and Gold - each requiring a combination of chosen and set books to be read and activities to be completed. The program aims to promote reading comprehension and reward students for their efforts. Librarians play a key role in guiding students through the program and acknowledging their work.

Read For Gold The Read For Gold system is a tracking method for S1 pupils, which allows you to record the books you have read, if you have understood them and to have your work acknowledged. 2
Read For Gold There are three levels to Read For Gold , Bronze, Silver and Gold. In each, you read five books, some set and some by your choice. You then carry out an activity on each book from the level booklet. 3
Read For Gold Bronze. To gain a bronze award you must read three books of your choice, one from the reading list and one information book. 4
Read For Gold Silver. To gain a silver award you must read three books of your choice and two from the reading list. 5
Read For Gold Gold. To gain a gold award you must read three books of your choice, one from the reading list and one final book chosen by the librarian. 6
Read For Gold The reading list. There is a list of suitable books available from across all the Fiction sections of the library. Many of them are labelled RFG and are shelfed on the first four shelves of the library. The list is held by the librarian. 7
Read For Gold The recording booklets.1 To keep track of the work you have done, there are booklets available from the librarian for you to work through. 8
Read For Gold The recording booklets.2 Each activity needs to be signed of by a teacher or the librarian. The librarian will also tell you when you can step up to the next level. 9
Enjoy Once you have found a book that looks good, remember to have it issued to you at the desk. You have a month before it needs renewed. When you are finished, hand it in when the library is open, or drop it into either of the book boxes. 10
