9. CONVOY COMMANDER CERTIFICATION PROGRAM DEFINITIONS Convoy: A group of motor vehicles organized for the purpose of control and orderly movement with escort protection. A convoy is also defined as, any group of 5 or more vehicles temporarily organized to operate as a column with escort proceeding together under a single commander or dispatching of 10 or more vehicles per hour to the same destination over the same route.

CONVOY COMMANDER CERTIFICATION PROGRAM DEFINITIONS (cont) Serial: An element or group of elements within a series, which is given a numerical or alphabetical designation for convenience of planning, scheduling and control. It is the largest element of a convoy and it moves and halts at the order of one commander. March Unit: A subordinate element of a serial which moves and halts at the order of one commander.

A formation in which elements are placed one directly behind the other. Convoy Commander: The officer or Non commissioned Officer in charge of the vehicles and operating personnel in a convoy; designated as such by the person authorizing the movement.

12. CONVOY COMMANDER CERTIFICATION PROGRAM MARCH CREDITS Is nothing more than a convoy clearance number. This number is given by the approving headquarters, in whose area the convoy originates and designated at the time the request for convoy clearance is approved. This number is shown by the convoy during the entire movement for control purposes.

They are used for peacetime missions and Company or Battalion sized Field Training Exercises (FTX). Submission requirements listed below do not include the day of submission and the day of the movement. CONVOY COMMANDER CERTIFICATION PROGRAM CONVOY ESTABLISHMENT CONVOY FOLLOWS CONVOY AHEAD SERIAL / CONVOY CDR REAR VEHICLE RECOVERY VEHICLE PACE VEHICLE Convoy Commander vehicle: can be anywhere within the convoy, is not preferred to be first or last vehicle, and will be outfitted with a diagonal black/white flag and commo Rear (trail) vehicle: will be outfitted with a green flag/commo and convoy sign visibly displayed on the rear of the vehicle, that reads in Hangul and English Convoy Ahead Pace (lead) vehicle: will be the SLOWEST VEHICLE in the convoy and will be outfitted with a blue flag/commo and convoy sign visibly displayed on the front of the vehicle that reads in Hangul and English Convoy Follows Recovery vehicle: will be capable of recovering the largest vehicle in the convoy and will be equipped with commo and rotating RAWLS light

18. CONVOY COMMANDER CERTIFICATION PROGRAM CONVOY IDENTIFICATION Markings: Clearance # prominently marked on both sides of each vehicle. The lead vehicle will have a sign with the words CONVOY FOLLOWS and the last vehicle will have the words CONVOY AHEAD. The sign will be in 3 black letters on a yellow background board 18 x 48. Lettering will not obscure taillights, directional signals or factory installed reflectors.

19. CONVOY COMMANDER CERTIFICATION PROGRAM CONVOY IDENTIFICATION Warning Lights: Lead vehicles will have at least one (not more than 2) rotating amber lights (RAWLS). The convoy commander will determine which remaining vehicles should be equipped with warning lights, based on visibility, weather conditions and convoy spacing. The last vehicle will have at least one (not more than 2) RAWLS light.

20. CONVOY COMMANDER CERTIFICATION PROGRAM CONVOY IDENTIFICATION Lights: The headlights on all vehicles in the convoy will be on low beam during the day and night operations. High beams are allowed, but not recommended. Ammunition: Vehicles carrying ammunition must have an orange placard on all 4 sides of the vehicle. Follow all guidelines per AK 385-11.

28. CONVOY COMMANDER CERTIFICATION PROGRAM CONVOY PROCEDURES Deviations of more than 15 minutes to the departure time given on the march credit requires the moving unit to call the HMCT for a new SP time. Unit/Convoy Commanders are prohibited from changing routes and composition of convoys without prior approval of the HMCT that issued the march credit. March units will not exceed 25 vehicles

CONVOY COMMANDER CERTIFICATION PROGRAM CONVOY PROCEDURES (cont) At least 5 minutes will separate march units At least 15 minutes will separate serials Intervals between vehicles in a column march unit will be a minimum of 75-100 meters on highways and 50 meters on secondary roads Intervals between vehicles in cities reduce to 25 meters

30. CONVOY COMMANDER CERTIFICATION PROGRAM REST STOP ACTIONS 1st initial reststop: 1 hour or 50 miles, whichever comes first All other rest stops: 2-3 hours or after driving every 100 to 150 miles, whichever comes first. All stops will be minimum of 15 minutes

32. CONVOY COMMANDER CERTIFICATION PROGRAM ACCIDENT TTPs Any vehicle involved in a traffic accident should immediately pull off to the side of the road to prevent blocking traffic. WARTIME ONLY. If the disabled vehicle cannot move to the side of theroad, the vehicle behind it will push it to the side of the road. Report any accidents or damage to the Military Police (MP) and chain of command. Warning light systems, such as a RAWLS or a strobe light system, will be mounted to convoy lead and trail vehicles, all tracks, and all oversized vehicles defined by ROKA Regulation 139. Receive current Threat Condition from appropriate Intelligence source, to include possible demonstrations in area of the convoy.
