The term has been abruptly brought to an end, no thanks to Covid-19 that is ravaging the world like wild fire. Our joy is that we have concluded learning and teaching and our set curriculum for the term has been well covered before the closure of schools by the State Government. We had put all measures in place even before the first index case was discovered in Lagos. We never let loose our guards all through, and we advise you to keep up the momentum even as the children are going to be with you. We have adequately sensitized them on what to do and what not to do. Please reinforce this, and put your two eyes on your domestic staff as well. Mr Fadare Adegboyega Deputy Head Teacher Word of the Week PERSEVERANCE LITERACY WEEK Our Literacy week was celebrated in grand style! The week featured awareness talk at our Monday assembly, story reading and recount of favourite story books in our book cover costume and Spelling Bee Competition at the Key Stages 1 and 2 levels. The grand finale was the celebration of World Book Day. At the EYFS level, some parents came in and read to our children. While some of our keystage parents debated with the pupils on the topic: Parents should be blamed for the child s misbehaviour . We appreciate all parents who participated in the debate and those who came to read to our children. We also appreciate all parents who made out time to grace the occasion. Colour of the week BROWN MY FREEDOM DAY As usual, for the third year running, our school sent a 1-minute video of our children to CNN expressing themselves on what freedom meant to them; and the video was aired on Wednesday 11th March 2020. We are truly international! PARENTS SEMINAR: The parents seminar recorded huge attendance. The focus was on professional ways to handle sexuality education with our boys and girls, when to engage in sexuality education and what is appropriate for each age bracket. The session was very informative. Let s all do away with those stereotyped beliefs and embrace professional strategies in raising our children.

Our school broke a 10yr national record by having a school average score of 89.6% at this year s Annual National Mathematics Competition that was organised by the Nigerian Tulip International College in conjunction with the National Mathematical Centre, Abuja. We also came first in the entire Lagos State with our child scoring 98.411% in the second stage of the competition. We are still basking in the euphoria of this outstanding performance when we were thrown into another round of ecstasy! Seven children selected from Year 4 to Year 6 represented the school at the Annual National UCMAS Competition on Saturday 14th February 2020. All the seven children displayed outstanding performances. 3 of them came second, 3 of them came third while one of them came first nationwide. She will be crowned the UCMAS National Champion soon. We are soaring higher by the day. MUSON COMPETITION Some of our children participated in the Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON) Schools Competition under different categories. At the time of compiling this newsletter the results were not ready. INTERCONTINENTAL DAY This programme and other programmes scheduled for the later part of the term have been put on hold indefinitely. We will communicate the next date to you as soon as circumstances in the country permit that. VACATION AND RESUMPTION The school has officially closed for the Bloom term today Friday 20th March 2020 in compliance with the directives of the Lagos State Government as a measure to contain the spread of Coronavirus. Hopefully, the Summer term will begin on Monday 20th April 2020. The children have holiday assignments to keep them indoor. Kindly prompt them to get them done. If the holidays get too protracted, we will find a way to get printable materials across to you. This is not a time for partying and carless hygiene practices, social distancing with top hygiene is germane at this trying period. As you stock the house with food, do please stock our children s libraries with age appropriate books. This will prevent idleness. Above all, seek the face of God in prayers and keep safe. Thank you. Oh! What a surprise! On Tuesday morning, rain was acquiescent; But I am not sure if it was really unpleasant Oh! So committable! On Wednesday morning, the weather was quite right. But I am not sure if it was really bright. Oh! So ludicrous! On Thursday morning, rain was so heavy it nearly pierced the roof It survived because it was nearly waterproof. Oh! So violent! On Friday afternoon, the rain was so soft; It was enough to play in all day long. Salma Oyebanji Year 5 Sapphire.
