  1. A Christians Perspective Death

  2. Feelings About Death Death is neither cruel, nor kind. Death simply is. It is how we may view death that causes grief and sadness all things are temporary mountains, oceans, and galaxies. Shock, fear, pain, anger, and guilt can set in The lasting effect of grief is not on a timetable. Healing may come quickly for some and not so for others as nothing can replace the person who has died

  3. June 1832 Cholera Outbreak Epidemic hit the US killing some 3,000 people between June 1st and November 1st President Andrew Jackson was warned to leave DC and to go back to Tennessee until it subsided A letter to his daughter-in-law revealed "My Dear Sarah, Knowing that we have to die we ought to live to be prepared to die well, and then, let death come when it may, we will meet it without alarm, and be ready to say, 'The Lord's will be done.'" (Remini, p. 387).

  4. Scriptures About Death Hebrews 9:27 And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment We all have to die, and we will all stand before God in judgment. How much calmer, how much more serene, how much more composed could we be approaching our own deaths and the deaths of others knowing that we had "lived well ?

  5. Our Desire After Death Matthew 25:21;23 His master said to him, Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master. His master said to him, Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master. Matthew 25:34 Then the King will say to those on His right, Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.

  6. We Are Conditioned To Fear Death is our enemy many fear their enemy 2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind Are we to fear death? (Spiritual death?, absolutely! Physical death?, absolutely not!) Isaiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

  7. 1 John 4:15-18 (15) Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in Him, and he in God. (16) We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. (17) By this, love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; because as He is, so also are we in this world. (18) There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.

  8. A Closer Look At Death Matthew 10:28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Romans 8:15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, Abba! Father! Romans 8:38-39 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  9. Closer Examination Rom 8:15 spirit in this verse refers to disposition or attitude Whatever the word spirit means regarding bondage it must also mean regarding adoption In what sense can anyone conclude that the Holy Spirit be referred to as a spirit of bondage ? Instead of being moved by fear as slaves, the child of God renders trusting obedience to God, and confidently calls upon Him as Father. The spirit of fear is displaced by a spirit of reverence, trust and worship

  10. Closer Examination Rom 8:15 Hebrews 2:14-15 Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives. Jews under the law were in subjection to the bondage of sin and served God out of fear of death their entire lifetime. The work of Christ put a stop to this type of attitude and disposition

  11. Closer Examination Rom 8:15 Hebrews 4:14-16 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. By the coming in of justification by faith through the Gospel, we do not serve God in fear. We serve God in assurance that we are sons who come to His throne of grace for help in time of need

  12. Encouraging Scriptures Psalm 116:15 Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints Though death is a curse and not viewed kindly, it is precious to believers because it removes all barriers between God and His saints; their healing is now complete in Jesus Before Richard Baxter s (English theologian) death is 1691, it was asked of him How are you as he was dying, his response was Almost well .

  13. Encouraging Scriptures 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 Revelation 14:12-13 Here is the perseverance of the saints who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus. And I heard a voice from heaven, saying, Write, Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on! Yes, says the Spirit, so that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them.

  14. Final Thoughts Death is no accident - We have no immunity from death Death gives us eternal rest from labor Death is a transition - Our temporary place changes into a permanent place Life has not ended, it continues through all eternity!
