  2. My Life My Religion: an award winning series of RE programmes from the BBC, with lesson ideas and activities for each clip from RE Today advisers NATRE and RE Today Supporting Religious Education

  3. Getting ready The film is from BBC Teach: My Life My Religion Pupils: you will need a pen or pencil and some paper to record your answers. It is called Christian Worship . In it, we see examples of Christians worshipping in two very different types of churches Click the link to the film from the BBC website, and then watch it carefully. Click this link and watch carefully: Religious Studies KS2: Christian Worship - BBC Teach Your teacher will tell you how they want you to share your work with them.

  4. TASKS for learning Through this work you will learn about different ways in which Christians worship. You will think about why worship is important to Christians and you will have opportunities to express your own views on worship .

  5. Task 1: What is worship? From watching the clip, choose 5 adjectives to describe Christian worship. Give 3 examples of how Christians worship. Using your 5 adjectives and examples of worship to help you, try to come up with a definition of worship in just one sentence. Record your answers. Can we agree on a definition of worship as a class?

  6. Task 2: Different types of worship Christians have many different ways of worshipping - giving thanks and praise to God. Nathan and Kirsty are both Christians but they belong to different denominations (different types of Christianity). In the clip Nathan (who is an Anglican Christian) shows us how Roman Catholic Christians in his home town worship at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral. Kirsty shows us worship at her Charismatic Christian church, Temple of Praise. Make a table to show what you noticed about both types of worship: What I noticed about Catholic worship What I noticed about Charismatic worship What do both types of worship have in common? Which would you prefer to visit? Why?

  7. Task 3: Why is worship important to Christians? Your friend is doing their RE homework. Their teacher has asked them to explain why worship is important to Christians. Your friend is stuck and has asked you to email them some ideas. Think carefully about what the children in clip say about worship and take a look at this: Worship RE:quest. You might want to do some internet research as well. Write a reply to your friend explaining 3 to 5 reasons why Christians see worship as important. Extend your learning (for older pupils) Watch the video on this page: Worship and festivals - Practices in Christianity - GCSE Religious Studies Revision - AQA - BBC Bitesize It shows Ceridwen, who belongs to another denomination of Christianity called Society of Friends, or Quakers. Quakers worship in a very different way to the types of worship we have seen so far. Write down what you notice about Quaker worship. What do you think might be the benefits of worshipping in this way? What might be difficult about it? What do you think about worshipping in this way?

  8. Extend your learning: Worshipping together and the pandemic We have seen examples of Christians worshipping together. Christians that gather together for worship are often referred to a congregation. Of course, Christians can worship God anywhere not just at church. And they can worship on their own or with their families as well. Worshipping together is very important to many Christians. In recent times, the numbers of people going to church have been going down and, in the pandemic, lots of Christians have not been able to go to church. Christians have had to find new ways to come together to worship God. In some churches, the numbers to people attending worship has actually gone up quite a lot. Use the internet and if possible talk to class mates who are Christian to find out about how Christians have been managing to get together to worship God throughout the pandemic.

  9. Key words: show what you know KEYWORDS for learning: use each of these 5 key words in a sentence or a series of sentences to show you understand them. worship praise Roman Catholic church cathedral congregation
