  3. Policy 7010 School Volunteers Highlights Background Check - process of verifying information provided by an individual that the District is considering to provide volunteer services. This may include but is not limited to a check of child abuse and neglect registries and federal and state criminal records. Individuals refusing to submit to a required background check shall be ineligible to serve as volunteers. Individuals approved to serve as volunteers shall be under the direction of the Principal or program administrator and shall be bound by the standards of conduct applicable to District employees. Approved volunteers who violate this policy or guidelines established by the Superintendent or designee may be removed from their volunteer services and/or prohibited from volunteering within the District.

  4. Policy 6051 Interscholastic Athletics Highlights B. Coaches, whether employed by the District or a volunteer (paid/unpaid), shall be subject to all applicable laws and guidance set forth by the state and athletic governing association, including but not limited to, submission to background checks and required training. C. Good sportsmanship is required. Coaches and players are always expected to set examples of good sportsmanship. Unsportsmanlike conduct shall not be acceptable.

  5. Volunteer Levels and the Approval Process

  6. Level 3: Unmonitored Volunteers (Athletic Coaches) Description: Have one-to-one direct and/or extended contact with students, during and/or after school hours. Required Screening: Complete online application (includes criminal background check, TN sex offender registry, SSN verification, national criminal database, and Shelby County courts), as well as TBI fingerprint background check which includes complete criminal record. Process: Once an online application is complete, the automated background checks begin. This can take up to 7 business days. Volunteers must schedule a fingerprint appointment. Fingerprint results can take up to 7 business days.

  7. Athletic Coach Application Steps 1. Go to www.scsk12.org/face/ 2. Click on the VOLUNTEERS tab at the top of the page. 3. Select Level 3 box. 4. Watch the volunteer orientation video. 5. Click on the APPLICATION tab. 6. Click NEXT. 7. Complete the application and click FINISH. 8. Schedule your fingerprinting appointment (Level 3 new ONLY) by emailing page@scsk12.org, or calling the Office of Family and Community Engagement 901-416-7600.

  8. Common Questions Answered MSCS only gives badges to volunteers that are assistant athletic coaches. (Brown for 23-24 school year). Fingerprinting must be pre-scheduled. Fingerprinting is more than just keeping them on file. Online renewal is required for levels 2-3 every year. Fingerprinting must be re-done every five years. Volunteers receive an automated email from Raptor notifying of approval. All non-MSCS employee coaches must complete the level 3 process.
