  2. Specific Aim (i) To know the meaning of Roughage and Balanced diet. (ii)To know about the importance of Roughage, Water and Balanced diet. (iii)To know about reason of constipation.

  3. Questions And Answers Question: Name the nutrients needed for the body. Answer: The nutrients that are essential for the body are Carbohydrates, Fats, Proteins, Vitamins and Minerals. Question: Name the nutrients which neither provide energy nor help in body building. Answer: Vitamins and Minerals. Question: Why should we drink water? Answer: Students are finding it difficult to give correct answer. Question: Why should we vary the food menu in each and every meal? Answer: To Get Every Components of food from our every meal

  4. Introduction You know cadets; We need to include fibrous foods in our diet. Water is an essential component of human body. Our body needs around two litres of water a day. A single food cannot supply all the nutrients. Today, we shall discuss about Roughage, Water and Balanced diet.

  5. Roughage Roughage (also called fiber) is the substance in plant foods that our body cannot digest. Roughage is found in Cereals, Vegetables, Fruits, Beans etc. Roughage is not a nutrient but adds volume to the food. We through out this roughage as undigested material and so it helps in excretion. If our diet does not contain enough roughage then we may suffer from Constipation.

  6. Water Water is an essential component of human body. It makes up around 70% of our body. Many substances dissolve in water. Water therefore helps to absorb nutrients from the digestive system. Water is a main part of blood and helps to transport substances through the body. When water evaporates as sweat from the body, it cools the body. Thus, water helps to maintain the temperature of the body. Water carries waste products to the kidneys, which excrete them through urine.

  7. A balanced diet A single food item cannot supply all the important nutrients. A Balanced diet is one that provides all the nutrients in the amounts required by the body to be healthy. A Balanced diet contains four food groups: The Milk Group, the Protein Group, the Fruit and Vegetable Group and the Grain Group. A balanced diet is not same for everyone. People who do a lot of physical work, Athletes and growing children need more energy giving foods than others. Growing children also need proteins in high amount.
