Enhancing Gender Equity through Work-Life Balance Initiatives in Academia
This project led by Dr. William Morgan, Dr. Oya Tukel, and Dr. Cheryl Bracken aims to improve gender equity in academia by developing innovative family-friendly faculty policies. A university committee is focusing on attracting and retaining high-quality STEM faculty through enhanced work-life balance initiatives, including tenure extension, paternal leave, FMLA, modified duties, and more. Policy enactment will be influenced by upcoming faculty bargaining agreements, academic administration, and HR department policies.

Change Project Description: Change Project Description: Led by the IDEAL-N project team, a university committee of 12 faculty representing all colleges was created. Taskforce on Family Friendly Faculty Policies was charged with developing recommendations for innovative family friendly faculty policies.
Goals/Objectives of the Change Project: Goals/Objectives of the Change Project: Our ultimate goal is to improve the recruitment and retention of high quality STEM and other faculty who are attracted to our university because of its commitment to family friendly faculty policies as we have broadly defined them.

Future Actions and Considerations Policy enactment will be driven by the following: 1 2 3 Upcoming AAUP faculty collective bargaining agreement negotiations. Enlightened academic administration. New policies of the Human Resources Department for all employees.
