  1. Manuscript Error Illustration To get a better grasp of what s going on with manuscript evidence, we ve done a little experiment. Early in class, we became a Scriptorium, you were the scribes entrusted with copying and preserving the text As I read aloud from Mark 1:39, you copied it down with due diligence. Around 72 copies should have been made that morning.

  2. Now, a couple of weekends ago, we had an archaeological dig here in Lee s Summit that was able to unearth 25 manuscripts of this early part of the New Testament writings of Mark! What a fantastic find this is for the church!

  3. But, when we actually started looking at these copies well, our confidence was shaken. On the positive side, even though there was some damage, nothing was beyond salvaging! Lots of folding, heavy wrinkling and even a small piece torn off. All 25 copies were created on paper with the medium of ink (pen), 2 blue, 1 purple, 21 black. One must have been washed out (blank). But across these 25 manuscripts, there were 75 errors 75! What impact does this have on our faith? Can we reconstruct the original text? Let s try it, line by line.

  4. In labeling the letter, chapter, and verse, we would add two more variants potentially, as two copies were labeled incorrectly. We had one 1 Mark, and also a chaper. In this editor s preference, I treated the pronoun He as a reference to Jesus, as being worthy of capitalization.
