  2. CONSIDER : WHY ARE SOME PEOPLE ASSERTIVE AND OTHERS NOT ? Stress fight or flight. Aggressive or avoidance Belief systems being nice means going along with others He/she will leave me I ll not get a good mark low self-esteem may feel inadequate and have a hard time finding their voice fear conflict, losing a relationship, criticism or rejection,

  3. ASSERTIVENESS NOUN - CONFIDENT AND FORCEFUL BEHAVIOUR. Tips for being assertive.. 1. Start small 2. Learn to say No 3. Let go of guilt 4. Express your needs and feelings 5. Practise assertiveness skills What would you do? Imagine the scene you ve gone to a restaurant with a group of friends and your food isn t as it should have been. Its cold and not nice.

  6. GIVING FEEDBACK EFFECTIVELY Number one rule: try to make it a positive process and experience Remind yourself why you are doing it Be timely Make it regular Prepare your comments Be specific Criticise in private Use "I" statements Limit your focus.

  7. SUCCESS IN PLACEMENTS Never be passive ask questions. Take notes. Offer where you can to help. Be open to feedback Be enthusiastic Turn up on time Remember you may not feel valued Remember your boundaries Manage your time effectively Meet new colleagues Keep a diary of what you do
