1. Change the narrative style of the following text. Why is she crying? Said Habib. What has happened to her? She is a wife of a farmer, said the man. They had land on the other side of the river but they have lost it. What does she want to do now? Said Habib. 5
Answer: 1 Habib asked the man why she was crying and what had happened to her. The man replied that she was a wife of a farmer. He added that they had had land on the other side of the river but they had lost it. Habib asked what she wanted to do then.
2. Change the narrative style of the following text. The girl said to the teacher, Sir, I shall be grateful if you kindly lend me the book you praised highly in the classroom yesterday. The teacher said, I have become really happy to know that you are eager to read this book. You are welcome to any of my books that you like. Thank you, sir, said the girl. You are welcome, said the teacher. 5
Answer: 2 The girl respectfully told the teacher that she would be grateful if he kindly lent her the book he had praised highly in the class room the previous day. The teacher told that he had become really happy to know that she was eager to read that book. He added that she was welcomed to any his books that she liked. The girl respectfully thanked him. The teacher welcomed her.
3. Change the narrative style of the following text. Stop! You are eating all our bread, shouted the two rats. I am doing my best but I have told you it s difficult, said the monkey. Give us the little piece, said the rats. This is my piece. Haven t I done a lot of work for you? Replied the monkey. How foolish we to believe you! said the rats. 5
Answer: 3 The two rats shouted to the monkey to stop because he was eating all their bread. The monkey told that he was doing his best but he had told them that it was difficult. The rats requested to give them the little piece. The monkey replied that that was his piece. He further asked if he had not done a lot of work for them. The rats exclaimed that they were very foolish to believe him.
4. Change the narrative style of the following text. The teacher said to the students, Why are you making a noise? You should behave yourself and read attentively. You must obey your teachers. The students said, We are sorry sir. We will read attentively. 5
Answer: 4 The teacher asked the students why they were making a noise. He added that they should behave themselves and read attentively. He also told that they had to obey their teachers . The students respectfully told that they were sorry. They added that they would read attentively.
5. Change the narrative style of the following text. Great king of the genies! called the monster, I will never again disobey you. Hearing those words, the fisherman became brave and said, Tell me why you were locked up in the vase. The giant angrily looked at him and said, Speak to me more politely or I shall kill you. 5
Answer: 5 The monster called the fisherman as the great king of the genies and told that he would never again disobey him. Hearing those words, the fisherman became brave and asked to tell him why he had been locked up in the vase. The giant angrily looked at him and ordered to speak to him more politely or he would kill him.
6. Change the narrative style of the following text. I will pay for it, said he. I broke the axe-handle down careless. But no one hits accurately every time, Jerry. Moreover, the fault was in the wood of the handle. I ll see the man who I have bought it from, I told him. 5
Answer: 6 Jerry told me that he would pay for it because he had broken the axe-handle sown carless. But I told that no one hits accurately every time moreover the fault had been in the wood of the handle. I added that I would see the man who I had bought it from.
7. Change the narrative style of the following text. The old man said, Can you give me some food? I ve been starving for three days. The man said, Why do you beg? Can t you work? No,I m unable to work, the old man replied. 5
Answer: 7 The old man asked the man if he could give him some food. He added that he had been starving for three days. The man asked why he begged. He further asked if he could not work. The old man replied in negative that he was unable to work.
8. Change the narrative style of the following text. Have you seen your mother, Jerry? I see her every summer. She sends for me. I wanted to cry out. Why are you not with her? How can she let you go away again? He said, She comes up here from Manville whenever she can. She does not have a job now. 5
Answer: 8 I asked Jerry if he had seen his mother. Jerry replied that he saw her every summer. He added that she sent for him. I wanted to cry out and asked why he was not with her and how she could let him go away again. He told that she went up there from Manville whenever she could. He added that she did not have a job then.
9. Change the narrative style of the following text. Will you go to college today? The mother said to her son. No, mother. Our classes are suspended. Then go to market and bring some vegetables. Ok, let me be ready. Here are money and bag . 5
Answer: 9 The mother asked her son if he would go to college that day. The son replied in negative that their classes were suspended. Then the mother ordered him to go to market and bring some vegetables. The son told that it was alright and requested to let him to be ready. The mother told him that there were money and bag.
10. Change the narrative style of the following text. What is the time by your watch? he said. It is half past nine, I said. He said, I want to go to the college. Would you accompany me please? No, I am sorry, replied I. 5
Answer: 10 He asked me what was the time by my watch. I replied that it was half past nine. He told that he wanted to go to the college. He further requested if I would accompany him. I replied in negative that I was sorry.
