What is a Learning Style Learning style refers to how people learn new information, solve problems, and process information. There is no best learning style. Everyone processes things differently and uses different methods to process information. No one style is better than any other style. Most of us use all three styles to a certain degree but usually, one style is more dominant than the rest
The Three Styles Visual Learn from information being presented in a visual format such as written words or pictures. Common example would be textbooks, with written words and pictures which you can bring back up in your mind. Auditory Learn from information being presented in an auditory language format. This is things such as lectures or podcasts. Things being spoken to you. Kinesthetic Learn from hands on experiences. Writing out things, working with your hands or body, playing with examples in real life.
Why Do I Need to Know My Style? Reason 1: You can take advantage of your highly developed areas to improve your academic performance. Reason 2: You can avoid problematic situations by knowing how to best use how you process information. Example: You have a lot of studying to do for an exam next Monday but because you know you re a kinesthetic learner, you start making flash cards while rereading the chapter, helping you absorb the information that much faster. Reason 3: You can target areas of improvement. Example: You know visual learning is your weakest area so you start finding exercises to help you visually pick out important information, making you a much stronger learner! Reason 4: You ll be much more successful!

Learning Style Study Tips Visual Learners These learners understand concepts by seeing them and learn new tasks by watching demonstrations. If you are struggling with a concept, try asking your teacher to break it down on the whiteboard or start taking bullet point style notes which are concise and easy to follow and memorize. Auditory Learners These learners understand concepts and learn best by hearing the information out loud. If your teacher allows, try recording your lecture and then playing it back while studying. If you are struggling with a concept, trying listening to a YouTube video or a podcast on the subject. Kinesthetic Learners These learners understand and process information by doing things. For studying, trying writing out your class notes several times. By writing, you are engaging multiple areas of the brain such as visual and kinesthetic, giving you a two in one learning combo! Also, notecards are big with kinesthetic learners since they have to write them out.
