  1. Vocabulary Intro

  2. blooming If a plant is blooming, it is growing flowers. Sunflowers are blooming in the field. They face the sun as their flowers grow. What flowers have you seen blooming in the spring?

  3. shovels Shovels are tools with a wide scoop and a long handle that are used for digging and moving things. These children use shovels to help plant a tree. How can shovels help people in the snow?

  4. scent A scent is a smell, especially a nice smell. Roses have a scent, or smell, that is as sweet as perfume. What is your favorite scent?

  5. tough Something that is tough is hard to chew, cut, rip, or break apart. A pumpkin has a tough outer skin that is hard to break. Have you ever eaten a tough piece of meat? What was it like?

  6. wrinkled Something that is wrinkled has many small folds. It is not smooth. A raisin is a dried, wrinkled grape, but it is still sweet. How can you smooth wrinkled clothing?

  7. plain Something that is plain is simple, not fancy. The plant on the left is plain. The plant on the right is fancy. Do you like to wear plain or fancy clothes? Why?

  8. muscles Muscles are the parts of your body that control how it moves. It takes strong muscles to use a loaded wheelbarrow. What do the muscles in your arm feel like?

  9. nodded If someone nodded, the person moved his or her head up and down to show that he or she agreed. The girl nodded her head up and down to show that she would help in the garden. What would you do if someone nodded his head, but then said no?
