  8. What does the Lottery offer? What does the Lottery offer? Launching this September Together for our Planet will offer grants from 1,000 to 10,000 of National Lottery funding to support communities across the UK to take action on climate change.

  9. 1. This is a Citizen Engagement initiative People must have reflected on what matters to their community and identified what they want to do locally. It is better to take the time to do this than rush into an application. You have until 18 November 2021. Key points Key points 2. Bringing people together to start thinking about climate action must be part of the project. It must inspire climate action after November even if in small ways.

  10. people and communities hit hardest by climate change people and communities who are starting to think about taking climate action groups who have not received funding from the Lottery before groups who do not have a current award with the Lottery smaller organisations with an annual turnover of under 100,000. National National Lottery Lottery priorities priorities

  11. All projects must be about developing a community-led climate action project. Your project will also need to meet at least two of these criteria: 1.It supports the development of longer-term climate action within communities (that is, taking place after the COP26 event in November). National National Lottery Lottery criteria criteria 2.It encourages communities to plan for the climate emergency - to consider what climate action could mean to them and why it matters. 3.It celebrates the importance of community-led climate action and encourages more people to get involved. 4.It builds resilience in communities that are hardest hit by climate change. 5.It provides jobs, skills or training opportunities for communities which support climate action.

  12. Community allotments Food Locally grown food schemes Active travel Transport Suggested areas Suggested areas Access to bikes Car sharing schemes Promoting public policies Capital costs such as small solar panels, wind turbines, roof insulation, new windows but they must be part of a wider project Energy Reducing food waste. Wormeries. Waste & Consumption Rainwater harvesting Reuse and repair schemes Changing behaviour Tree planting Natural environment Community spaces Wildflower meadows

  13. Ideas for action at Ideas for action at parish level parish level Discuss and engage the parish on your climate risks (e.g. flood risks getthedata.com/flood-map/sidmouth) and ideas for action. Assess your environment can you create biodiversity in graveyards and gardens, support more plant varieties and animal life or grow food Are there education opportunities - ecological education for the parish community focus on helping people plan for climate change. Can you reduce the carbon footprint of church premises (insulate, save energy) Are there opportunities to reduce waste e.g. water harvesting and irrigation. Can the community re-use more e.g. swap shops, school uniform clubs and community larders

  14. Next steps Next steps All parishes can apply any time between 1 September and 18 November. For those parishes who have applied for Digital equipment or Reducing Loneliness it is the same form & requirements (to have two independent contacts and a bank account in the parish s name). A decision from the Lottery will take 12 weeks so most projects won t start before December at the earliest. The diocese is looking at projects such as Youth Groups and Environmental roadshows but parishes stand a much better chance as they are smaller and local.
