Image result for school games logo Keepie-Uppie Challenge How to play The aim is to keep the ball up on your racket while taking part in the different challenges. How many times can you bounce the ball in the air with your racket, without it dropping on the ground? Challenges: 1. Using a forehand grip? 2. Using a backhand grip? 3. Alternating between a forehand and backhand grip? 4. While walking in a straight line to a cone 4m away, then back? 5. While walking around obstacles to a cone 4m away, then back? Spirit of The Games Determination: What do you do when you drop the ball? Do you keep trying? Your School Games - School Games Value: Determination School Games Values The PE School Sports Network Honesty: Do you keep an accurate count of your score? Think tactics How high are you hitting your shots? Is it better to have big or small bounces?
Image result for school games logo Catching Challenge How to play Agree on a playing area with target zones at each end. With a partner, each of you must stand in the two different target zones. One player starts with a ball/object and throws it into your opponents area. The receiving player must try and catch the ball before it bounces. If the ball/object is caught, you can then throw it back into your opponents area. Spirit of The Games Self-Belief: Are you always confident that you will catch the ball/object? School Games Values The PE School Sports Network What happens when you are not very confident? Safety Play in a space away from anything that is breakable. Always aim for space when throwing the ball/object.
Image result for school games logo Clear the Area How to play The aim of the game is to end up with as few items as possible in your area. Mark out a large area with cones or markers across the middle, creating a centre line. Equal numbers of soft throwing items are then placed in both halves of the area. When ready, throw the items from your area into your opponents area. After the time is up, one point is scored for every piece of equipment in your opponents area. Essential Open space to play the game. Soft throwing equipment, e.g. shuttlecocks, soft balls, pairs of socks, be creative! School Games Values The PE School Sports Network Safety Only use soft throwing equipment. Ensure playing area is safe. Children should be aware of others when throwing and be encouraged to throw into a space.
Image result for school games logo Power Jump How to play Safely complete the jumping challenge that you have set yourself. Find an area where you can plan your jumping challenge. Check the surrounding area is safe and does not put you in any danger. Agree on the challenge to complete. For example: Try to jump over or between a bag and a jumper on the pavement. Create a target on a wall that you can use your feet to push off from. Use bags or coats to create a distance for you to jump over, increasing the distance each time. Try adapting the challenge to make it easier and help you build your confidence. Don t challenge yourself too much too soon Check the equipment and area you are using is stable and doesn t contain any potential hazards.
Image result for school games logo Find a Goal How to play The aim is to pass your ball through every goal in the shortest possible time. Working with a partner, set up two cones of the same colour, one metre apart, making a goal. Start off passing the ball to your partner through your goal. How many goals can you score in one minute? Change to moving and scoring in every goal. How long does that take? Essential Cones or socks to make some gates. A ball or item to pass between the gate. Your School Games - Passion Determination: Are you excited about playing this game? Think tactics Which are the best gates to go through and why? How far away from your partner do you stand?
Image result for school games logo Rebound How to play The aim of the game is to keep the rally going by hitting the object against the target. Find a wall or suitable surface to play against. Play with a partner and strike your ball against the wall so that it lands in a designated area. Your opponent then attempts to strike the ball back against the wall to keep the rally going. You could be playing against your partner to try and make it harder for them to return, or you could be working together to see how many times you can keep the rally going. Safety Make sure the surface you are playing against doesn t have any windows that could be broken. Is the surface safe to hit against?
Image result for school games logo Scavenger Hunt How to play The idea of this challenge is to find as many items on your list as quickly as possible. Playing with a partner or adult, create a list of five items for each other to find. Be creative with the items on your list. For example, find something: green, hard, with a smooth surface, that makes a noise, you could wear, you can make music with, crispy, etc. When you swap lists you must go find and collect as many items on your list in the time allocated. The game ends once the time runs out or you collect all the items on your list. Equipment List of items to find. Item checklist. Pen/pencil. Your School Games - School Games Value: Determination Safety Make sure the area for the game is safe. Create and explain clear physical boundaries for this activity. Ensure the list created won t encourage any dangerous items being collected.
