WILMSLOW COMMUNITY AWARDS
In September 2023, the Wilmslow Town Council initiated the Wilmslow Community Awards to recognize individuals and groups demonstrating exceptional dedication and community spirit in the town. The event will feature a simple ceremony at the Town Meeting in May, including a drinks reception and photographer, with nominations open to all Wilmslow residents and workers. The initiative aims to highlight community work, engage residents, and potentially expand the event in future years. Various aspects such as nominations, categories, prizes, and involvement of local businesses are being carefully planned by a dedicated work group.

WILMSLOW COMMUNITY AWARDS In September 2023 the Community and Order committee agreed to set up a work group to look at setting up a WTC Community Awards Ceremony. This event will showcase individuals and groups who have shown dedication and community spirit in Wilmslow. Neighbouring towns have similar recognition rewards, and this is something beneficial and exciting to add to our annual calendar of events. EVENT As this is the first year of running the event, we think it is best to keep the event simple. We suggest holding the event at the Town Meeting in May and including a drinks reception and a photographer to capture the awards. NOMINATIONS Nominations will open as soon as possible, hopefully after February s Town Council meeting. The process of nomination will be simple, and entry is open to anyone who lives/works in Wilmslow. Nominations to close 31st March. CATEGORIES We will not ask for the nominations to be made under specific categories. Instead, we will use the nominations to identify how best to categorise the nominees, we do expect this to be around 3-6 categories. PRIZES We will arrange for trophies for each winner of a category. We also think that a permanent marker of winners of the awards can be on display on a wall of recognition, perhaps at the Library. We have also discussed offering a monetary prize for young award winners, which can be used for education/hobbies. 2024 Community Awards 2
THINGS TO CONSIDER ADVERTISING EVENT NAME We need to start advertising as soon as possible; this can be done on the website and via social media. We suggest looking into correx signs with details on how to nominate perhaps with a QR code directing users to the WTC website. The workgroup has been using the name Civic Awards. However, we think this may cause uncertainty of its purpose if used. We have the below names to consider Wilmslow Awards BUSINESS INVOLVEMENT Wilmslow Community Awards We suggest reaching out to the BID to see if this is something we can work on together. E.g Vouchers for winners to spend on Grove Street, assistance in advertising. Wilmslow Star Awards COST By holding the event on the same day as the Town Meeting, we can combine the cost of room booking. We expect to remain within the 1000 agreed budget. JUDGING A small group of councillors to shortlist and decide categories and winners. Perhaps one Cllr from each ward. 2024 Community Awards 3
OUTCOMES Hard-working members of the community are recognised. Highlights community work in Wilmslow, hopefully helping community groups recruit new members. Promotes the work of Wilmslow Town Council, the nomination process will direct traffic to the website and boost engagement. Scope to expand the event in future years, perhaps making use of local landmarks ie The Rex, to hold a larger award ceremony. 2024 Community Awards 4
