  1. LES QUESTIONS EN FRAN AIS

  2. LES QUESTIONS THERE ARE 3 WAYS TO ASK QUESTIONS IN FRENCH. 1. INTONATION 2. INVERSION 3. ADD EST-CE QUE

  3. INTONATION This is the easiest way to form a question. You simple take a statement and change the intonation in your voice to form a question. Examples: Tu aimes lacrosse. = Tu aimes lacrosse? Vous parlez fran ais. = Vous parlez fran ais? * Not ideal in the written form.

  4. INVERSION Inversion is where you reverse the verb and the subject to make the statement a question. Examples: Tu aimes lacrosse. = Aimes-tu lacrosse? Vous parlez fran ais. = Parlez-vous fran ais? This would be considered more informal language.

  5. EST-CE QUE The last option is to add est-ce que to the start of the statement to make it a question. Examples: Tu aimes lacrosse. = Est-ce que tu aimes lacrosse? Vous parlez fran ais = Est-ce que vous parlez fran ais? This is the most formal way to ask a question.

  6. ASSIGNMENT PART 1 You are going to write out 6 questions for your partner using all three methods of asking questions. (twice each) Have me look over the questions, then Your partner will then answer the questions using full sentences. Example: Est-ce que tu joues au tennis? Non, je ne joue pas au tennis. Each person will ask and answer someone's questions.

  7. ADDING DEPTH To ask questions that are not simply yes or no answers you need to add these important words to the beginning of your questions. Quoi (Qu ) = What Qui = Who O = Where Pourquoi = Why Quand = When Comment = How Combien = How much

  8. EXAMPLES Aimes-tu jouer du piano? = Do you like to play piano? Pourquoi aimes-tu jouer du piano? = Why do you like to play piano? Est-ce que tu es bon dans les maths? = Are you good at math? Comment est-ce que tu es bon dans les maths? How are you good at math? Tu visites la France? = You are visiting France? Quand est-ce que tu visites la France? = When are you visiting France.

  9. ASSIGNMENT PART 2 You are now going to write 5 more questions using five of (Qui, Quand, Quoi (Qu ), O , Comment, Pourquoi, Combien) Once again have me look over the questions, then You are once again to give these questions to your partner who will answer them in full sentences. Note that Parce que means Because Once again you will need to ask and answer a set of questions (to and from the same person)

  10. ASSIGNMENT PART 3 Once your questions have been answered have me look over all of the answers. You are then going to practice the pronunciation. Once you have practiced you are going to film your interview and submit it to me. This is due on Monday, September 28th.
