  3. Mission and Vision Mission Waconia lacrosse is dedicated to organizing, developing, and promoting lacrosse in Waconia and to honoring the game by instilling the values of academic achievement, sportsmanship, and individual development. Vision The Waconia lacrosse program believes that all student- athletes will strive for success on the field and develop skills that will inspire leadership, teamwork, self-discipline, and resilience. Our student-athletes will become positive role models and leaders in the community.

  4. Player Expectations Players are student-athletes. We expect every player to maintain progress towards graduation and attend all classes. Have a positive attitude Give 100% in school, practices and games Help teammates build each other up, not down Learn something new everyday Committed to making all practices and games (with the exception of illness) This means that lacrosse practices and games come before club sports/activities, drivers ed, jobs, etc

  5. Expectations for Coaches Will encourage you to do your best in everything you do (school, lacrosse, etc ) Will be punctual and organized Will be committed to building/growing a quality lacrosse program Will make sure every player has been provided the opportunity/knowledge to develop into a better player and person by the end of the season.

  6. District Policies -All players signed/agreed to follow all district policies including academic eligibility, attendance and mood altering chemicals. -If player or parents need a copy of any of the above policies please contact the high school athletic office.

  7. Practice Expectations Practice times: Monday-Friday 3:30-5:30 and also some Saturdays for varsity (will provide complete practice schedule at the beginning of the season) Dress for the weather. Practices will be outside unless it is lightning. (We play in the rain, we will practice in the rain, so dress appropriately). If a player needs to be absent, they are expected to inform the coaches by text, email or phone call (telling a teammate to tell the coach does not count) before practice. If a practice is missed by a player the day before a game, that player will not start that game and playing time may be reduced. If player does not inform the coaches they will be absent they will not be able to play in the next game, however are still expected to attend the game and support their teammates.

  8. Equipment Daily items: Water bottle, mouth guard (can not be clear or white), lacrosse stick, goggles, cleats (running shoes when inside). No Jewelry Cold weather dress for games: Need to wear black colored gear under away uniform and white colored gear under home uniform.

  9. Game Expectations Home games: Varsity please be at games 1 hour before start time. JV please be there 45 minutes before start time. Away games: Will load bus 10 minutes before the scheduled departure. Coach will inform teachers if early release is needed and will be relayed to players the day before the game.

  10. Game Expectations For Varsity, playing time will not be equal. Player attendance, attitude, effort and skill are all taken into account when it comes to playing time. For JV, this is a learning experience. Our goal is to get everyone playing time. However, attendance, attitude and effort will still be taken into account when deciding playing time. Be respectful of our fields and other facilities, clean up after yourselves. We are ambassadors of Waconia High School, always show good sportsmanship.

  11. Transportation Expectations Expectation is that students need to ride the bus provided by the school to and from games. If an emergency comes up the expectation is that a parent physically comes and tells the coach they are taking their athlete. Athletes are only to go home with their parent/guardian. If a situation arises that an athlete needs to go home with a different adult, a form needs to be filled out (provided by the athletic office) and that form needs to be turned into Ms. Johnson 24 hours in advance. Students are not ever allowed to drive themselves to/from a game.

  12. Coach Communication Coaches will do their best to explain players strengths and weaknesses throughout the season. If there are concerns, the coaches expect ALL PLAYERS to verbally communicate their concerns after practice to the coaches first. *Parents: This is a great learning opportunity for your student athlete. This is a life lesson which will build your athletes skills in communication with adults for real world situations in college, and their future jobs.

  13. Coaches Communication contd Coaches will NOT address playing time concerns via text message or email. (This will be done in person by the student-athlete.) Coaches will answer text messages and emails that relate to practice/game time and date or location questions. Parents- please do not confront coaches before, after or during games and practices about concerns. 24 hour communication rule: 1st- If a concern arises at a game, player must wait 24 hours to approach coaches (after practice the next day) 2nd- If there still continues to be a concern coaches are happy to schedule a meeting with the player and their parents outside of lacrosse scheduled times. 3rd- If concern continues after parent meeting a meeting will be scheduled with the athletic director, coaches, player and parents.

  14. Coach Communication contd Please keep in mind that decisions made by the coaching staff are what is best for the program as a whole. Please be considerate, and do not voice your concerns in the stands- it doesn t solve any problems.

  15. Varsity Letter Criteria Must play in at least 50% of varsity games. No unexcused absences at practice or school Be in good academic standing Be on time to all practices and games and attend all classes. No detention or suspensions Remain chemically free

  16. Illness Please stay home if you feel ill. If a positive covid test- isolate for 5 days. May return to practice on day 6 (no games) as long as there is no fever (without medication) but must wear a mask at all times through day 10.

  17. Illness If an illness requires you to be absent for more than a week playing time may be decreased once a player returns. Athletes will need a week of practice to catch up and reacclimate. A doctor's note will also need to be provided clearing the athlete for play. If there is an injury it is expected that the athlete attend all practices and games until they are cleared to play. Playing time may be decreased to allow for reacclimation.

  18. Miscellaneous notes Coaches will wait to leave after practices and games until every player has a ride home. If picking up your player, please pick them up on time. Social media/text messages to others: Only post positive and appropriate pictures and comments that your parents/grandparents would approve. Do not post pictures that are inappropriate, against the law or that devalue your self-worth, family, team, school or community.
