We generated 5 154 tons of waste at our production sites, of which 58% were recycled. 93% of our electricity demand and 71% of total energy used at production sites is derived from renewable sources. A reduction of Scope 1 & 2 GHG emissions by 62% over the last two years was achieved.

VARTAs main sustainability goals 2023 - 2030 1.5 DEGREE PATH Commitment to the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) to submit a near-term target in line with a 1.5 degree path for official validation within the next two years. REDUCTION OF GHG EMISSIONS & ACHIEVING 100% ELECTRICITY FROM RENEWABLE SOURCES Developing and validating science-based targets to further decrease greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) and implementing strategies for reduction. These strategies include increasing energy efficiency, increasing electricity from renewable sources (100% by 2030), and reducing waste. CARBON FOOTPRINT Applying PAS 2060, a standard for entities towards carbon neutrality, VARTA takes the next step from carbon accounting to action. The framework offers VARTA a pathway to carbon neutrality by measuring, reducing and offsetting its GHG-emissions. Currently, VARTA is in the preparatory phase to carry out a carbon footprint evaluation of individual buildings. SUPPLY CHAIN DUE DILIGENCE Commitment to further enhance transparency in the upstream and downstream value chain to ensure continuous improvement of the due diligence management system. Relevant suppliers with increased sustainability risks shall undergo audits focusing on their ESG performance. WATER CONSUMPTION Developing a new water management concept in 2023.
