I. SPIRITUAL WARFARE I. SPIRITUAL WARFARE When a person commits his life to Jesus Christ and desires to follow Him, through life, an entire ARRAY OF FORCE begin to seek to DESTROY that commitment and severe that person s relationship to Christ
II. OUR SPIRITUAL ENEMY: SATAN II. OUR SPIRITUAL ENEMY: SATAN A. His Origin Satan was one of GOD S ANGELS who decided that he wanted to TAKE God s place and become the RULER of the universe; thus his principle of sin was PRIDE.
II. OUR SPIRITUAL ENEMY: SATAN II. OUR SPIRITUAL ENEMY: SATAN A. His Origin As a result of his rebellion, his nature become CORRUPT and he became the ultimate source of all evil in the universe. As an enemy of God, Satan also became the enemy of any human being who wants to SERVE God. (1 Peter 5:8)
II. OUR SPIRITUAL ENEMY: SATAN II. OUR SPIRITUAL ENEMY: SATAN B. His Activity 1. Satan exercises an INFLUENCE over all people by means of his ability to TEMPT them to sin and to BLIND them to the light of the Gospel message.
II. OUR SPIRITUAL ENEMY: SATAN II. OUR SPIRITUAL ENEMY: SATAN B. His Activity 2. As part of his work of DECEPTION, we can identify all the world s CULTS and religious system which delude people into thinking that they are right with God. (2 Corinthians 4:3-4)

II. OUR SPIRITUAL ENEMY: SATAN II. OUR SPIRITUAL ENEMY: SATAN C. Satan and the Christian a. In warfare, we must constantly be on the ALERT, so it is with our adversary, Satan. (1 Peter 5:8) b. Christians must submit to God to RESIST Satan and his cohorts. (1 Peter 5:9, James 4:7)

We do not need to DEFEAT Satan ourselves because Jesus Christ has defeated him and DELIVERED us from his power by dying for us on the cross. We will just let Satan know that we know (by faith) that he has NO POWER over us.

Satan and the Christian d. 2 Corinthians 2:6-11 emphasizes the importance of FORGIVENESS within the body of Christ for Satan wants to DESTROY the bond of LOVE among believers which is the most important PROOF that we are true DICIPLES.
III. III. OUR SPIRITUAL ENEMY: THE FLESH OUR SPIRITUAL ENEMY: THE FLESH A. Definition This term refers to a principle within each person which causes them to REBEL against God s commandments and thus to SIN. (Romans 7:23)

Dealing with the Flesh If we are to live as Christ wants to, we must constantly put this part of our nature to DEATH by refusing to SUBMIT to its desires and instead subjecting ourselves to the INDWELLING Holy Spirit who is seeking to lead us into a life of holiness and RIGHTEOUSNESS. (Romans 8:4,12-14)
III. III. OUR SPIRITUAL ENEMY: THE FLESH OUR SPIRITUAL ENEMY: THE FLESH C. Walking in the Spirit This is the key to putting to death the INFLUENCE of the sinful nature. This is done by SETTING our minds on the things of the Spirit which means simply that we must learn more and more to give each moment of our thought life to God.
III. III. OUR SPIRITUAL ENEMY: THE FLESH OUR SPIRITUAL ENEMY: THE FLESH C. Walking in the Spirit This includes thinking over the TRUTHS of Scripture as well as PRAYING and giving praise and THANKSGIVING to God in our hearts continuously. (Galatians 5:16, Psalms 119:11, Ephesians 5:1-20)
IV. IV. OUR SPIRITUAL ENEMY: THE WORLD OUR SPIRITUAL ENEMY: THE WORLD A. Definition This refers to the spirit of the Age , that is the ATTITUDES of human society with all its VALUES, GOALS and LIFESTYLE which leave God totally out of the picture. (1 John 2:15-17)

We are here not to CONFORM to it but to see it TRANSFORMED by the power of the Gospel. (John 20:21, Matthew 28:19-20, 2 Cor. 5:20)

Our Weapons Paul emphasized that we do not wage war ACCORDING to the FLESH that is, with purely human strengths, but rather, we must learn to fight using God s DIVINELY POWER WEAPONS being strong in the LORD and in the strength of His might. (2 Corinthians 10:3-4, Ephesians 6:10)
