Jesus' baptism and the descent of the Holy Spirit represent an integral moment in Christian theology. The event, as described in the Gospels, highlights the connection between water baptism, prayer, and the reception of the Holy Spirit. Through a dove descending and the voice of God affirming Jesus as His beloved Son, the baptism serves as a significant milestone in Jesus' ministry and the Christian faith.

  1. Becker Professional Theology Academy BI100 Module 6.1 The Holy Spirit Baptism of Christ (John 1:29-34; Luke 3:21-23) Course Creator Kathy L. McFarland http://becker.academy/moodle/

  2. Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened, And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased. (Luke 3:21-22) If Jesus required baptism with water, then so will his followers. After the 30-years-old Lord Jesus Christ was baptized with water by John, He immediately PRAYED to His Father. If Jesus prayed to receive the Holy Ghost, then so will his followers If the Holy Ghost chooses to symbolize Himself as a dove, then it is a typological fact that the Holy Ghost is represented as a dove in the Word of God

  3. (Luke 3:21-22) The voice of the LORD God came from Heaven and called Jesus His beloved Son! The voice of the LORD God told Jesus I am well pleased! The voice did NOT come from the Holy Ghost!

  4. And everyone present at the Baptism of Christ heard the voice of the LORD God!!! And everyone present at the Baptism of Christ saw the Holy Ghost light upon Him!!! And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. (Matthew 3:16-17) After Jesus was raised up from the waters of baptism He: 1. Saw that the heavens were opened unto him. 2. The Spirit of God descended upon Him like a dove 3. The LORD God said from Heaven This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. The LORD God formally announced that the newly baptized Jesus was the beloved Son of God!

  5. What immediately happened to Jesus upon receiving the Holy Ghost after His water Baptism?

  6. The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree. Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Savior, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins. And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him. (Acts 5:30-32) The Holy Ghost witnessed Jesus Christ s slaying and hanging upon the cross as Prince and Savior, and His Resurrection. Followers of Christ are also witnesses, who receive the Holy Ghost when they obey the Savior And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, And a Branch shall grow out of his roots: And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, The spirit of wisdom and understanding, The spirit of counsel and might, The spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; (Isaiah 11:1-2) Jesus Christ received the Holy Spirit visibly at His Baptism; but, the Spirit was chosen as Witness and Guider before Christ s earthly birth. And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. (Acts 2:1-4) The obedient followers of Jesus Christ have received the Holy Spirit since the day of Pentecost

  7. And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. (Matthew 28:18-20, KJV) Christ s Great Commission Baptize in the Name of the Father Teach all nations, the things of Christ so they can be SEEN and UNDERSTOOD! Baptize in the Name of the Son Baptize in the Name of the Holy Spirit

  8. 15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. 19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also. 20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. 21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. 22 Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? 23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. 24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father s which sent me. 25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. 26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. (John 14:15-26 (KJV) The COMFORTER is the Holy Ghost, sent by the LORD God Father, to dwell in all followers of The Comforter will be with faithful Christians FOREVER! How long is FOREVER in this instance? The Greek word (ai n), ( nos), (ho) denotes everlasting and eternal on this earth. Though the Word of God indicates no duration to an anticipated end, there may be limits according to God s plans on the New Earth. Jesus Christ the Savior, that keep His commandments and love Him. The Comforter was sent after Jesus Christ ascended to Heaven, to dwell within all faithful Christians so they would have the Spirit of the Truth and be taught and remember all the teachings of Jesus Christ their Lord.

(John 14:19-24, KJV) How does the manifestation of Jesus Christ and the LORD God and the Holy Spirit dwell within you?
