Understanding Motion in Physics: Definitions and Examples
An object is said to be in motion if it changes position with time, while rest implies no change. Learn about types of motion such as linear and circular, as well as vibratory motion and reference points. Explore how objects can be in motion relative to one reference point while at rest relative to another. Examine examples like a moving bus and passengers. Answer questions on rest, motion, reference points, and types of motion.

Class IX physics Subject- Motion motion: An object is said to be motion if it changes its position with passage of time. Rest : An object is said to be in rest if it does not changes its position with passage of time.
Types of motion Linear motion : A body has linear motion if it moves in a straight line or path. Examples are Motion of a moving car on a straight road. Motion of a ball dropped from the roof of a building. Circular or rotational motion : A body has circular motion if it moves around a fixed point. A vertical line passing through the fixed around which the body moves around a fixed point. Examples : motion of an electric fan.
Definitions continued Vibratory motion: A body has vibratory motion if it moves to and fro about a fixed point . Example: motion of a wall clock Reference point : A fixed point or a fixed object whit respect to which the given body changes its position known as reference point or origin. Rest and motion are relative terms. a body or an object is in motion with respect to one reference point but the same body or an object may not be at rest with respect to the reference point.
Example When a bus moves on a road , then the bus as well as passengers sitting in it change their position with respect to a person standing on the road side so the passenger and the bus are in the motion with respect to person standing on road. But the passengers sitting in the bus are in rest with each other as they do not change their position with respect to each other . 1) Define rest? 2) What do you understand by the motion of an object? 3) What is reference point? 4) Can a body exist in a absolute rest or motion? 5) Define types of motion and write two examples of each? Give answer of the following questions:
