Drops and withdrawals are two different processes in university academic policies. Dropping a course means discontinuing it within the term, while withdrawing entails leaving school for the semester. The University of Florida has specific drop policies for transfer students, with potential implications on GPA and financial obligations. Considerations for dropping courses include impacts on majors, excess hours surcharge, and critical tracking requirements. It is crucial to consult academic advisors for guidance on the implications of dropping courses.

  2. What is a drop? (after the drop/add period) Dropping a class or course generally means that you no longer wish to continue or complete a course you are registered in a current semester. The term drop is used when you are enrolled in a term that has at least 2 or more courses on the schedule. The student will still have other courses remaining in the current term.

  3. What is a withdrawal? (after the drop/add period) Withdrawing is a term that is used when a student is not able to or no longer wants to continue in school for the current semester. The student plans to drop the entire schedule in the current term. If a student is enrolled in only one course in a term, and the student wishes no longer to continue, it is a full-term withdrawal, not a drop. Since it is only one class in the term, the entire semester is withdrawn as there are no other courses remaining in the schedule.
