The first type involves factual or habitual conditions likely to occur in the future or present. The second type deals with hypothetical situations that are unlikely or impossible, and the third type is used to speculate about past events and express regret. Each type is explained with clear examples and structures.

  1. Three types ofConditional clauses 1.The first type is likely or Probable or real conditions. They express factual or habitual conditions which have the possibility to occur in the future or generally occur in the present. Examples:-Future conditions: 1.I ll go if you give me the ball. 2.If I feel better,I ll certainly play. 3.If you do well in the exam ,I ll buy you a gift. 6. Summing up First Conditional A.Nature:Open condition,What is said in the condition is possible. B:Time:This condition refers either to present or to future time. E.g.If he is late we will have to go without him. If my mother knows about this,we are in serious trouble. Second Conditional A.Nature:Unreal (impossible)or improbable situations. Time:Present;the tense is past ,but we are talking about the present, now.

  7. E.g.If I knew her name,I would tell you. If I were you,I would tell my father. Compare:If I become president ,I will change the social security system.(said by a presidential candidate ) If I became a president ,I would change the social security system.(said by a school boy:improbable) If we win the match,we are qualified for the semifinals. If I won a million pounds ,I would stop teaching .(improbable)

  8. Third conditional A.Nature: unreal Time:past(so we are talking about a situation that was not so in the past .) e.g.If you had warned me,I would not have told ypur father about that party.(But you didn t ,and I have.) Conclusion-We have seen the three types of conditionals with examples and their structure ,I think it must be clear to you .
