Within the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) and Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE), the transition of data services to Gulf of Mexico Coastal Ocean Observing System (GCOOS) from National Data Buoy Center (NDBC) has progressed through formal discussions, system design assessments, server establishments, and data stream initiation. Key activities and events from 2019 to 2021, including the registration of data providers, disruption of NDBC services, and the proposed cutoff, have been documented. The importance of formal inventory of observing stations, data policy implementation, and reporting functions has been highlighted to ensure smooth operations.
