Robinson Crusoe By Daniel Defoe Second Year /Morning Classes 2020 The Significance of Crusoe's Dream during his illness Instructor : Dr. Hayfaa Mohammed Shareef
Crusoes Dream or nightmare Crusoe becomes very sick with a fever for about a week. He has no one to help him in his sickness and he is frightened that he may die lonely and miserable. Crusoe has a dream or nightmare that a man comes down from a black cloud to threaten to kill him with a spear for his lack of repentance.
Crusoes Dream : Significance When Crusoe wakes up, he understands the significance of the dream. His terrifying dream causes him to reflect on his religious thoughts. He realizes he should have listened to his father's warnings and should have been thankful to God for his comfortable life. he comes to perceive his being shipwrecked as divinely ordained punishment for his previous behavior.
Crusoes reaction to the Dream For the first time, he prays to God before going to sleep . He begins to read the Bible , which gives him hope of redemption. This marks a turning point in Robinson's religious thinking. He comes to see his being stranded alone on the island as a good thing, a deliverance from his former life of sin.
