JOHN
“He saw and believed” (v 8)
It looked like Jesus had risen through the cloths
John believed without understanding

2. Responses …

MARY
Mary hangs around the tomb bewildered
Jesus’ body is gone
“they have taken my Lord … I don’t know where”
Bumps into Jesus – thinks he’s the gardener

2. Responses …

Jesus says her name: “Mary”
Her despair is turned to joy
He gives her a simple task …

… a
momentous
 task –
She is apostle (“sent one”) to the apostles
News forever changes way people relate to God

2. Responses …

My
 father &
your
 father,
my
 God &
your
 God
God the Father is as much
ours
 as his
He opened way of fellowship, intimacy with God

2. Responses …

CHIEF PRIESTS
A third group responded very differently
Single-mindedly pursued their own agenda
They wanted to protect their power and privilege
“We’ll say the disciples stole the body”

Living It

“What is truth?” (jn 19:38)
We have become so jaded by falsehood
Truth is elusive
Some truths matter – a lot!
We choose how we respond
We are people of the truth (Jn 20:37)
The truth will set you free (Jn 8:32)

Living It

We live by faith in Jesus’ words to Mary:
“My father &
your
 father, my God &
your
 God”
God is our father
Jesus is our Redeemer
The Holy Spirit is our comforter
Jesus: “I am with you always” (Mt 28:20)
