Second Language stories Being bilingual has been an invaluable asset in my role as Director of Customer Success at myBlueprint. My ability to communicate fluently in both English and French has significantly expanded myBlueprint's reach in the francophone school sector across Canada, allowing us to better serve and understand the needs of a wider range of students and educators. This has not only strengthened our relationships with existing partners, but also opened doors to new opportunities in the French- speaking market. Furthermore, my bilingualism has piqued my interest in the sales industry, as I have been able to effectively engage with potential clients and partners in their preferred language, ultimately contributing to the company's growth and success. - Daphnee, Director of Customer Success, myBlueprint My profound interest in cultures has been nurtured through extensive travel for both work and leisure in recent years ( 65 countries in counting! ) It's clear to me that my experiences would have lacked depth without a strong grasp of the local languages. Being fluent in both French and English, and having studied Spanish in high school, has presented myriad opportunities from global teaching assignments to bilingual job roles. However, beyond its professional advantages, learning languages has broadened my perspective, fostering connections with diverse individuals and deepening my sense of belonging in the world. Second Language stories In high school, I had the chance to further my French studies, but I chose to opt out at the earliest opportunity. I was embarrassed to speak in front of the class, and I found the process of learning another language quite challenging. Looking back, I regret not persevering, as it has now limited my eligibility for many job opportunities, particularly within the government sector where I work. To compensate, I'm currently dedicating three hours a week to language classes and investing in a tutor to enhance my skills, aiming to advance into a management position and broaden my career prospects. Carol-Policy Analyst I work in the trades, where speaking a second language isn't essential for my job. However, my partner hails from a francophone community, and I deeply wish I could converse with her family. Additionally, I'm drawn to countries where English isn't the primary language, but my linguistic limitations hinder my ability to immerse myself in these places beyond a tourist perspective. Second Language stories In high school, I had the chance to learn Spanish, but I hesitated. Speaking in front of others intimidated me, and the thought of learning a new language seemed daunting. As I entered the workforce, I soon realized the limitations of only knowing one language. Watching my colleagues effortlessly communicate with international clients made me feel left out. I couldn't fully participate in discussions during meetings conducted in Spanish, and I knew it was holding me back professionally. Determined to change this, I enrolled in Spanish classes and dedicated myself to learning. It wasn't easy; I stumbled over words and felt self-conscious about my pronunciation. But with each lesson, my confidence grew. As my language skills improved, so did my opportunities. I was chosen to lead a project with a team in Mexico, where my newfound proficiency was invaluable. Engaging with native speakers, I formed meaningful connections and gained a deeper understanding of their culture. Ben -(NGO)
