Epaphras has come to Rome  looking for help
from Paul concerning a problem in the church
This is an encouraging and challenging letter

The Power of Consistent Prayer
Paul is consistent in his prayers for them
He is continually bringing them before God with
thanksgiving
It is not just from a sense of duty, he has a
desire to see them flourish as God’s children
He was thankful for what God had done in their
lives and knew that God wanted to bless them
even more
We should consistently pray for one another
 
A POWERFUL PRAYER
 
What did Paul pray for? (9)
Knowledge of God’s will
God has a will for the whole of creation
The Bible reveals His will through His 
promises
and through the words of the 
prophets
His will is in His word
The Holy Spirit is the spirit of wisdom and
understanding (Isaiah 11:2)
 
A POWERFUL PRAYER
 
What should knowledge of His will produce? (10–11)
Obedience to His will
Fruitfulness in our lives
Good works that glorify God and point people to
His love
A growth in knowledge of God and His ways
Being strengthened with power from on high
An increase of endurance, perseverance

Thankfulness (12 -14)
As we grow to know God and His word better
we will become even more thankful
The inheritance of the children of light
Thankful that He has rescued us from darkness
Thankful that we are part of Jesus’ Kingdom
Thankful for redemption, the forgiveness of sins
 
A POWERFUL PRAYER
 
LESSONS FOR TODAY
Pray for one another
Give thanks to God for what He has done
Seek to know His will and His word with
the help of the Holy Spirit
When you know His will, do it
wholeheartedly
Be fruitful through good works
Rejoice in your salvation
Rejoice that you are forgiven and redeemed
Rejoice in your inheritance
